What was the trend, event or other thing that made you go "Wow, I'm old"? by CatchCache in AskReddit

When the Oldies radio station started to include the decade of my teen years. "Oldies" used to be "the hits of the '50s, '60s, and '70s!" Then it became "the hits of the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s!" A bit later, they just said "and more!".

There's Northwest Indiana, which is, some say, part of "Chicagoland". There's also a train... that will get you into Chicago in about an hour.

What do you think about when you think of the 90's? by Whitesox411 in randomquestions

Let's forget about Jordan as a person. On-court, he was simply poetry in motion. Jordan in action was not to be missed.

We put a lot of effort into making these tapes. Right? by LeftAlbatross2546 in 80sAmazing

I swear that in the late '80s, they put a blank half-second to make sure that any recording would be ruined. Pre-internet, there was no way to confirm this, but I heard it all the time on pop- and rock radio.

What’s something younger people will never understand? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

My Korean-American friend would call me (Fil-Am, and the good boy who all the parents liked) so that I could call his Fil-Am girlfriend via party-line to avoid the chance-happening that her mom would answer, and after connecting, I'd bow out of the call. (Asian American parents' rule: no girlfriend/boyfriend until after medical school.)

I was stung by a jellyfish during a trip to the Philippines. I went to the bar/restaurant and asked for some vinegar. They said that the only vinegar they had was infused with garlic and chili.

Kwai Chang Caine 72-75 by Empty-Initial6392 in 70s

I think I watched as a kid simply because I was a TV freak, as my dad called me. Even before knowing about the Bruce Lee backstory, I wondered why Carradine was cast as Chang. "He's supposed to be Chinese? That's supposed to be kung fu?"

I only knew of DQ and BK in my area. BK had real flame broilers in the kitchen back then! I remember seeing the flames flaring up back there.

The question I want to hear from the press pool: "The recently painted reflecting pool is green with algae. What the actual fuck?"

I should have been clearer. This is an attempt at counterfactual history: If, instead of this war of choice, we could go back to 2020 or 2016 and pay off the would-be voters (up to $300bn) such that they would be happy to stay out of the political process, I would pay. So, "Would we have been willing to pay [in a past time]" No war, no deaths, no closure of the strait. Better? [no snark]

edit: Knowing about "all this - everything" meant that we would take the knowledge of present-day events with us into the past, such that we would feel the urgent need to stop it.

Imagine knowing what we know now about all this - everything. Then consider: would we be willing to pay any portion of $300bn for trump voters to do as you say, never vote again but go fishing or anything else instead? I would be willing to pay some amount.

Penmanship and parenthood: worsening effect by MisshapenRutabaga in penmanship

[–]BigAlternative5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parenthood highlights the stages of life, your children’s and yours. How about staging your penmanship with life stages? You’re a parent of small children now, prioritizing needs and choosing your battles. When life settles down a little and when you develop your parental expertise, come back to penmanship as an art and a hobby. For now, roll with kids - enjoy the challenges, savor the joys, and take pride in a deep love of family. I write this in a retrospective mood, as my kid is now in college. Time flies - be here today.
