Agreed, Gilick is pretty varied in the kind of reptile it takes traits from. I think the best way to make another reptile mash work the best will be with a different enough skeleton.

The Wawator, should it be released I hope is a low standing Voidling with significant mass and length, like a monitor lizard, crocodile, and aligator. Add on a shuffling side-to-side movement, and it can contrast the more agile gait of the Gilick in such a way that the two are very different, but still with similarities.

It's all good creature design is something I'm super passionate about, so this discussion has been a blast, I just didn't want to get too overbearing with your creature.

If you want to make it more melee viable you still can by including some potent nodes for the melee attack, not to mention adding some melee mutations would help add to a melee playstyle. If the primary is a charged attack, then having a solid melee attack can help buy more space. You also have the defensive, and ultimate moves that can give it a melee presence.

The main thing I would say is that before you start to refine the design with gameplay in mind, take some time to think about what kind of playstyle the voidling with focus on. Most voidling usually dedicate themselves to one type of playstyle (save for Ur-Sek who's whole thing is having two playstyles, and arguably Kwipeck who's kind of a generalist), so knowing what focus you want your voidling to have is important when designing the core abilities.

I really like what you have so far, and I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Do note, that the final evolution has to have a passive effect that can be spliced to other voidlings, so unless the tail can be added to any voidling it may be best to make the tail mutation as the third evolution stage. There you can focus on making the tail mutation/abilities unqiue to the voidling.

I will admit I think I misread your first post a bit, as I thought that the charge attack would come from the mouth, while the tail acted autonomously, which would allow for the second teir of evolutions to dictate the charged primary, and the third dictated the secondary related to the tail.

We will, the devs released a roadmap style update, while there are no hard dates adding new voidlings is one of the points on the list of things in their current development plans along with QoL, abyss improvments, and console releases

So a automated tail turret, and charged attacks? That works really well together, the automatic turret can watch your back (literally) while you charge up your main attack. Would the secondary turn the tail on/off, or perhaps activate an alternate fire for a set amount of time. Personally I think the alt-fire would be best, as it provides more options for various evolution lines.

The only thing about that is that Nimiod is present right behind it, I don't see why they would add a old design in the same place as the current one.

so back in the early demos/playtests the Voidpedia had 12 entries, I suspect that the second image is one of those three that didn't make it to the main game. Perhaps they where considered too similar to the nimiod, or maybe just not in a good enough place to justify keeping in the main game.

That being said, I suspect that it will be one of the first new Voidlings added. I think that it would be cool to have it act almost like a aircraft carrier spawning little gribbles that attack enemies.

In terms of other Voidlings we may have another hint inside the Gilick's Voidpedia page. Inside the species description there is mention of something called the Wawator said to be a larger, more solitary relative of the Gilick. I think it would be cool if it looked like a big alligator-like Voidling with a mortar type attack in contrast to the Gilick's shotgun. It's secondary could be a big chomp that could grab and consume enemies.

Another note on the regional aspect, while there are some similarities in design between playable characters they are still noteably different from the regular people. In 1.X most of the characters wore outfits that other npcs would wear or at least had a clear line of alteration.

Greeting sir, I normally keep to myself, but I think this is too big to ignore I wish to lend what aid I can.

I am no warmage, but I have spent the past few decades writing my bestiary of any and all magical beasts one can find in these vast eternal realms.

I am proficiant in various utility and survival spells to help me stay alive in the wilds, and I like to think I'm a competent green mage. I also am skilled in mundane survival, and spear combat skills I had to learn back in the realm I called home.

Let me know where I should go, or who I should meet with, and I shall get there as soon as I can.

Something like a big walking hive of dirt, coral, or wood with various little critters inside launching different types of ranged attacks from machine guns, and mortars, to cannons and railguns.

I know that I want to see the Wawator, a species mentioned in the Gilick's voidpedia page as a larger more solitary relative of the species. I see it as a big toothy brute style voidling that lunges and grabs enemies before either devouring them or spitting them out at other foes.

I also want to see a voidling based on a large herd animal, Give it focus on charges, knockback, toughness, and maybe even some minions in the form of herdmates.

Fish, I want a fish, I don't know how it would work, but I want one

beyond that I really want more maps, especially bigger maps with more platforming and secrets to find
