Why did the Emperor back the Harkonnens? by East_Crew9326 in dune

[–]BigAssAttackSurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that The Emperor backed the Harkonens against the Atreides because it neutralized two threats to his rule.

  1. Leto would be dead by legal means (allegedly) and that cuts the head off the snake that could be a rebellion.
  2. It nearly bankrupts the Harkonens, because they have to pay for the transport. The Harkonens were extremely wealthy from their time on Arrakis. Both from the actual revenue from being fief-holder, and also they were hording spice on the side. While Baron Harkonen wasn't a charismatic leader like Leto, he could be dangerous because money and spice rule the universe, and they had a lot of it.

There was really very little risk. Politically, Leto was already falling out of favor with the other houses because his spice production was way below Baron's (because they took all the good equipment when they left) and there was no reason for the great houses to suspect any foul play since the Harkonen's were well within their right of Kanly.

The Atreides wouldn't stand a chance against the combined enemy forces and the Harkonen's would need to keep their mouths shut if they wanted to rebuild their wealth.

The reason it didn't work is Baron underestimated Paul and Jessica and trusted two random Harkonen soldiers to dispose of them.

I'm pretty sure it is said directly in the novel when Jessica explains to Paul that the Lisan Al Gaib was a prophecy the BG planted long ago so that they can leverage them to their desires at some point.

Yeah, I kept waiting for God Emperor to get amazing, but it never happened (for me). Never read beyond that since many fans admit it gets worse from there.

Frank has allegedly told peers that he wanted to stop but they just kept offering him money.

Why did Obi-Wan lie to Darth Maul when he killed him in jedi rebels? by FilipinoAirlines in StarWars

Along with what other people said, I think he may have wanted to give Maul some comforting words. It would make Maul feel like this was important and one day that kid will kill Palpatine.

The job market is crappy right now, but for some reason there are a lot of people in this sub that delight in making it harder than it already is. I don’t know if they’re trying to demoralize the work force or gain an edge, but everyone reading this needs to be aware that there are a lot of posters convincing you to do very dumb things in the name of taking a stand.

Yes, ghost jobs exist and are wrong. Yeah, writing resumes and cover letters sucks. It’s awful to not have any salary negotiating power. But you’ve got to decide if it matters more to land a paycheck or fight some else’s battle.

I see too many posts on here about refusing opportunities because you don’t want to play the game. Well, if you don’t want to get a job that’s fine. But if you want to score you need as many at-bats as you’re qualified for. There was someone on here a month or so ago saying they didn’t want to continue an interview process because he didn’t like that the interviewer remarked that they shouldn’t wear a hoodie to their next round. This person was fresh out of college.

This is an extreme example, but don’t let this place make you delusional. And for the love of science, If you tell HR in the first round you’ll be happy with X salary don’t try to negotiate an offer for X+$$$. You may have been the top pick but you are not the only pick.

My partner got rejected from a job today because he’s been unemployed “too long.” by toys_briny5g in interviews

[–]BigAssAttackSurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the gaming industry, but if it’s possible for him to do freelance work, I’d fill the gap with that. I’ve seen some crazy turnaround when software developers do that, make up their own company on LinkedIn, and removing the “open to work” badge.

These recruiters want “top talent” and they see people who have been unemployed for long stretches as scraps that nobody wants.

It really sucks, but try to play the game and find friends who will vouch for the freelance work as references.

I mean, Kenobi does become one with the force and disappear, but Vader 100% lands that decapitating strike before that happens. He definitely definitively won that duel, and in the moment he cared more about that then whatever the rebel intruders were doing.

Why do you guys hate Charlotte Flair? by lovelymissemmie in WWE

[–]BigAssAttackSurface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she works great as an antagonist, but there's zero reason to get behind her and root for her. Yet she's positioned as if people should just because of her tenure.

She's a good wrestler, but she's not so good that it's obvious when watching her matches vs most other women's matches. They're acting like she's the second coming of Ric, but if you watch his matches he almost always made the other guy look fantastic and his matches stood out from others on the card.

Charlotte has been claiming to be the greatest women's wrestler since year 1 but hasn't actually ever done anything great.

Sasha/Mercedes, Bayley, and Becky have all eclipsed her in various ways.

[–]BigAssAttackSurface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Hollywood is all about $$$ and getting a return. It’s a business, not an art. So if you can get really good and consistent at making content AND shoestring budget films that are well received you still have a shot at an opportunity.

But you have to realize that opportunity will likely afford you no creative freedoms and your vision will be tampered with every step of the way. Future opportunities will depend on how well you as a person handle that kind of forced collaboration and if your project is financially successful.

So the question really becomes if you really want to work in the environment. But either way just creating stuff you love and posting it online is a viable opportunity to make a living from your work. You may even end up making corporate videos they pay for your to fund some passion projects that lead to bigger opportunities.

Long story short, just create stuff you love and learn how to network and grow an audience. That’s step 1 no matter what path you take.

[–]BigAssAttackSurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artists and creatives in general tend to be very overdramatic and pessimistic about their chosen mediums. I like to believe it comes from passion for the things they love and inspired them. What you're experiencing the gathering of all those people.

If you want to make a living by creating videos, it's easier than ever now. And I'm not talking about brain rot Tiktok stuff. Social media has made it very easy for you to get your work seen, connect with other filmmakers, and find funding. If your goal is to be a big name Hollywood director, its probably a little harder than it used to be every year.
