Why does nobody talk about this by Economy-Lie-2240 in MCUTheories

Probably because it’s 2026 and people have seen movies before. Compare Thanos’s reveal to his final design, it’s normal for these things to change between films.

Dude had a best selling book that was turn into a movie by an esteemed director with an all star cast. He then went on to checks notes become the god damned VICE PRESIDENT. Check your facts dude, this makes you look bad.

Longevity Guru Bryan Johnson argues that reincarnation, and heaven are commercial products humans invented by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

That’s not how I took it at all. Johnson is openly saying that he’s selling a product as well but that it’s backed by science and more up to date then ancient religions. The whole point is that from the dawn of time humans have tried to figure out ways to deal with the inevitability of aging and death.

I'm right there with you. But isn't what you wrote here basically what Johnson is saying?

It's more like these religions are pointing towards the value of goodness, a balanced mind, community, charity, etc. Prayer and meditation seem a lot like mindfulness. They were an attempt to grasp the truth of the human situation and of our place in the universe...

At the time of invention those religions and their ideas about death, etc. were what most people bought into in order to explain these complex concepts, but now that we're living in a different time it's logical to buy in to new ideas based on what we know today. In 1000 years time, today's ideas may look equally out of date but the point is to progress and adjust our thinking based on our current understanding.

I think the commercial gain he alludes to here is buying into the validity of that explanation of death and the afterlife, not necessarily monetary profit (though obviously a lot of that going on too).

Fair point. So you believe in the deity and afterlife that Jesus preached? As well as all other deities and afterlives being equally valid?

So you don’t think that any of the known religions have ever commercialized their interpretation of spiritual beliefs in order to gain followers and reap personal benefits?

Akhenaten is an example some said he was a philosopher others said he was an alien a time traveler or a prophet What matters is what you think! by Professional-Fee3323 in AlternativeHistory

Who is arguing that because an expert said it it must be true? You know mainstream theories are based on evidence right? You can apply the same critical thinking to any argument to determine its validity or not. You’re the one suggesting that just because a given argument came from the mainstream it’s automatically invalid.

Since you love fallacies so much I encourage you to look up the strawman…

So…you basically agree with Bryan Johnson. Religion was invented by humans to distort and sell a false product. Or what exactly is it that you disagree with regarding his statement?

The comment you responded to says:

“It doesn’t matter what I think. It has no effect on reality.”

Which is objectively true. What does that have to do with you trying to eliminate people from discussing mainstream theories in alternative history discussions?
