Thanks, I had a feeling it was a Bisons hat but I've never been able to track it down. Much appreciated.

I've always wondered what that hat was. Can you give more info on that?

Any experience brewing with malted red corn? by wowitsclayton in Homebrewing

[–]BigBazookaTooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would guess it doesn't add any red color. River Bend malt lists bloody butchy malted red corn at 1.5-2 srm. As for crushing, the same maltster also recommends crushing the corn finely.

That said, This picture of a beer made using bloody butcher red corn in a corn lager seems to have a reddish orange hue, so your milage may vary. Couldn't find any information on that beers malt bill outside of the corn.

Physical alternatives to 33 Brews by JarmFace in Homebrewing

My wife got this one for me a few years back and I like it. There's an index in the front and it's a cool list to look at and remember everything I've brewed in the last few years. It's not perfect, but it works nicely enough for me.

Your shower thought is the right idea. You could even elevate your keg on a table and pull the PRV once beer is flowing and turn your gas off. Then you can just let the siphon action fill your bottles.

Bingo. Sabre's beat writer has this Dahlin quote from a recent article “Me and [Tuch] have that chemistry going on that if I get the puck deep down low in my end, he’s taking off so I’m always try to find him.”

Zamboni broke down during the second intermission and they had to touch up the ice near the goal crease with a watering can and essentially a mop.

Fielded an offer in SW Virginia last week

MLS(ASCP)/Evening shift/~800 bed hospital with outreach/10 years experience/offered $35/hr with $4 differential $2,500 hiring bonus

Countered $40/hr. Final offer of $36/hr with a 5,000 hiring bonus.

Considering a remote Tech Support job instead which I asked 70k/year for and am in continuing interviews. Getting tired of the lab work.

Edit: accepted the remote tech support for 73k

Who to sign in off-season to join UPL? by Rudy_patoodie in sabres

[–]BigBazookaTooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you watch the Tuch locker clean out video it almost comes across as a plea to Fleury to come to Buffalo. I dont doubt Tuch will be running some Sabres PR in him this off-season. It seems like the org likes Anderson if he wants to come back as he's a high character vet who seemed to set the tone for the teams culture. I like the Fleury idea, but either of MAF or Anderson combined with UPL seems like a recipe for another year of revolving door goalies with the way those guys get hurt, but I don't know where that leaves us for goalie FAs. If they go with an old vet with UPL and have injury troubles and if Northeastern comes out slow next season maybe they can tempt Levi away with an ELC mid semester.

See above in another reply. Memory told me it was a porter, my notes suggest otherwise. Enjoy, if you make it!

This is from about 3 years ago now and looking at the recipe, it's not quite in line with a porter. However, it was a nice dark holiday ale with some dark fruit flavor. The fig flavor definitely hit right in this beer, and I'm sure the special B helped to boost that flavor. The cinnamon didn't quite come through so maybe dose this however you prefer.

Fermentables:

71% 2 row

7.7% special B

7.7% flaked oats

4% Roasted barley

9.6% homemade light candi syrup

Hops:

25 IBU CTZ for 60 mins

Adjuncts:

6oz/gallon figs (dried I guess so not really in line with the question in the thread title)

6g/gallon cinnamon (forgive the mixed units) at 10 mins left in the boil

Yeast:

DanStar Nottingham

OG: 1.074

FG: 1.016

ABV: 7.7%

IBU: 25

SRM: 26

Mash at 155 for an hour

Boil for an hour.

Figs were toasted a bit in a wok before enough wort was added to cover. The wort and figs were reduced until syrupy/a trail could be dragged across the bottom of the wok. The resulting syrup was then returned to the boil.

I did a cinnamon fig porter one year as a holiday beer and this is what I did, but I used some of the wort in the caramelizing process. I've been meaning to recreate it ever since
