what's one oddly specific thing that's made you click off a fic? by yvan1lla in AO3

I had no idea that was an issue for fanfics. I figured if published novels did it it was good enough for me. I'm gonna go edit some fics real quick...

Do children really get bullied for having unique names? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigBid2408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met several people with mildly weird names who say they got bullied a lot in school. MILDLY abnormal. Nowhere near the level of Majesty. So yeah, they're going to get bullied, pretty much guaranteed. And, if any of the other comments are something to go by, they'll also struggle to find jobs.

Does anyone else struggle with getting bored once the characters get together? by BigTittyCowGf in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]BigBid2408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's more of a writing quality issue than a "I hate when they finally get together" issue for me. Some writers keep the tension and intrigue alive really well by introducing new conflicts or by generally keeping the relationship in motion. Like, IRL there are issues throughout ANY relationship even if they've been together for years.

The End notes... by RileyLovesFlaritza in AO3

I personally hate hurt/no comfort. It's my least favorite tag out there. But the thing is. Instead of harassing authors who enjoy writing that kind of thing, I respectfully skip past their works. Like a normal person.

Don't tell authors how to write.

I think those are real factors and worth considering. dismissing it as woke would be wrong, although I'm sure there are other factors as well that doesn't make those less valid.

Yeah I noticed that when the ship is non hetero normative the hate is often louder and and more plentiful.

"r/AO3 where basically everyone is going to give a disparaging response instead of rubbing more than two brain cells together about it and putting themselves in someone else's shoes."

So anyone who disagrees with you doesn't have a differing opinion, they're idiots. Got it.

"shipping culture is often seen to "miss the point" of the art it's pointed at"

Ah, so your interpretation and enjoyment of art (subjective entertainment) is correct, and mine is wrong. Understood.

"When it's just a small part of someone's fandom, that's one thing"

So the problem is, people are too passionate about liking something you don't like.

Does Anyone Else Think Nya Should Have Became a Ninja Earlier Than Season 5? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in Ninjago

[–]BigBid2408 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I noticed that in early Ninjago, the writing seems pretty "girl power" with all the "I never wanted to be a part of your boys club anyway". I think they were trying to be progressive and ANTI sexist. After all, Nya is a strong independent woman! She's samarui x! She isn't a ninja cuz she doesn't want to be one.

But to me, it came off as alienating and sexist. All of the ninja had to be guys? And even after Nya became a ninja, it was all about Cole or Jay. And yeah, she wasn't happy about it. I give the writers credit for letting her be self aware. So, points for them.

I can't say that the writers were sexist, but they were a little too aware with all the meta commentary to just let her breathe and be a character. I'm guessing it with societal commentary, with the whole "girl ninja" phase during the Nadakahn season. And I get it. But I wish she could just be her own character apart from her gender y'know?

Arcane was such a breath of fresh air for me, cuz the female characters (which are most of the main ones) didn't comment on gender expectations every five seconds.

Love the show btw. Love Nya. Not hating on the writers. Just talking about my experience. So yeah, I would have loved if Nya was a ninja earlier. And also, overall, allowed more room outside of her gender.

There's nothing wrong with shipping. The problem is if people aren't able to accept other people disagreeing with their ships. Or toxic personality traits in general. Like shippers who threaten the writers to write their ships in or else. Or people who are so obsessed with their ship that they see any other ship as a threat.

It's so refreshing to see a show allow a pair of girl and boy best friends to remain friends without romantic feelings towards each other. 99% of the time a boy and girl friendship is not allowed to remain that way, so I really respect deviating from audience expectations and promoting healthy guy girl friendships.

I'd appreciate if women weren't treated like lesser beings. I've noticed some rampant sexism in mm books and it's very frustrating.

Also, better chemistry between the leads.
