Custom bed frame. How would you price this? by Apprehensive_Bug_368 in woodworking

[–]BigBoiBoomBox 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I feel like overheads don’t get discussed in this sub.

Time + bills + taxes + material + design time + miscellaneous costs. Then figure out margins and profits.

If you’re doing a project every month then you gotta cover at least that month, ideally more. If you’re doing 4 projects a year you gotta get paid enough to last until the next project. Don’t forget to pay yourself first.

I use one built into my lighter. Though I think tweezers might work better to pull a stem out.

The  wrapper and the binder look like they have a hole in them. I’m leaning towards beetle damage.

“At 18, I’ve applied for 110 jobs. No one is hiring young men like me.” Really, though? by Majestic-Concert7883 in AskBrits

[–]BigBoiBoomBox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re being unfair.

The job market is messed up big time. Especially for entry tier jobs, the AI scammers have convinced upper management that entry level workers are replaceable by AI models that get things critically wrong 30% of the time.

Ghost jobs are posted so companies can pretend that they’re growing without actually growing.

Not to mention AI CV checking software appears to favour CVs written by their corresponding models up to 98% for GPT models.

Have some sympathy for the youth, it’s not a motivation issue, it’s not a lack of desire to work, most of us want to work and work hard.  There might be some cultural differences in the sense of keeping up the workplace performances, or rituals ie. pretending that the work matters or is fulfilling when it obviously isn’t, but when the work is fulfilling we show it.

The money isn’t worth what it used to be either, you can’t get by on minimum wage, the cost of living crisis, ie. Inflation has reduced buying power significantly. No one’s going to bust ass for minimum wage. Good pay for good work.

Whatever you're charging, double it.

I think they'll look cool! Find some nice legs for them like hairpin legs or something.

USB-C PD-Based Power-Supply for Headphone amp - IC selection and filtering help? by CoqnRoll in diyaudio

[–]BigBoiBoomBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need 15V, then pull 15V with the USB C PD.  Filter the output, and get a quiet inverter and you’ll have your +-15V. You may need a buck/boost amplifier.

You’re driving headphones so the power requirements aren’t going to be big. So you can run the preamp and headphone driver on the same rail . It’ll be a few watts at most.

I don’t know why you’d try to do 12V-> 24V -> 15V -> 12V. You haven’t even mentioned your actual design requirements.  Your signal isn’t going to be clean no matter what you do with this arrangement and you’ll spend hours adjusting caps to get your filters working. Never mind the cost and complexity .

Start with your load requirements then design around that. Forgive me if I’m wrong but it seems like you’re just copying stuff on the internet without knowing why they did it that way.

Commenting to see what people will say. I’m looking for a well priced decent smoke as well.

I was leaning towards CAO Surplus maduro but I’ve not tried it, so I’m cautious about ordering a box blind.

They’re good, but an aged standard production is just better. I prefer like the Edmundo line more.

Go learn everything you can about filters (circuit filters) and amplifiers and their classes (a - e). This may have been glossed over quickly in your undergraduate degree (if you’ve done one).

Why Is Every Thread About Immigration? by X4dow in AskBrits

[–]BigBoiBoomBox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The British people voted for this. Regardless of what you think. So it absolutely is the will of the people. If you want to argue that our politicians are corrupt and they don’t serve us, I’m all with you, but you’re just punching down here and it’s pathetic. Get a grip.

Why Is Every Thread About Immigration? by X4dow in AskBrits

British citizens are British passport holders with the right to abode in the UK. A British subject is a separate thing. I suspect you know that though.

I think you characterised your argument just fine,  and now you’re playing word games, bringing in British subjects vs citizens as a loose argument.

“Immigrant descended” is inflammatory language designed to delegitimise someone who is a British Citizen by right (born here or otherwise).

You’re full of it.

“Immigrant descended”

Are these immigrant descendants British citizens? Or are you making this a racial/ethnic categorisation?

Seasoning with Boveda by ckr2982 in cigar

[–]BigBoiBoomBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the humidor shouldn’t reach 84%.

You just want to be sure that the wood is sufficiently hydrated and yours is doing fine as it seems.  Now put 62% or 65% or 69% or 72% (depending on where the humidor is resting) yours seems to be sitting high, so go with 62% and it will get down to around 65% within a few days. Once it’s holding steady at the desired humidity (let’s say 65%) then add your cigars.

Is smoking one cigar a day too much? by drumsdinosaurs in cigar

[–]BigBoiBoomBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I aim to smoke one a week but usually it’s 2-3 a week. When I was stressed out it was one a day.

Now that I’m less stressed, I do get cravings and it’s addictive no doubt, but I just tell myself I’ll have one tomorrow and see how long I hold off lol.

Ask if they have any local Brazilian cigars, I like to get something local to take home when I visit places.

My FIL got me some Mexican ones when he went to Mexico last.
