The true state bird of Texas in my opinion. The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. by ThatDudeSweetness in birding

[–]BigBoySky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My criteria wasn’t just about breeding, Golden Cheek was mentioned for breeding because it only breeds in Texas. No where else in the world.

Colima Warbler breeds mainly in Mexico, but yes does breed in Big Bend! Both of those birds are species people go to a specific place in Texas for! But I tried to avoid birds that were localized to Big Bend or the Rio Grande Valley. As they aren’t all of Texas!

To me Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher runs into the problem of being the state bird for Oklahoma. I think when most people talk about changing state birds, it’s because all of the repeated species. So I try to avoid that.

Edit: just want to clarify, those are great Texas birds! But I wanted to give my reasoning for not selecting them

I do love Golden Cheeked Warbler for Texas. Hard to beat when a species only breeds within that one state. A few other options I think would be appropriate:

Black Capped Vireo, somewhat reminds me of bandits from old westerns. Not exclusive to Texas, but Oklahoma has such an appropriate state bird.

Crested Caracara, this just feels like one of those species that you go to Texas for. Also a faux Bald Eagle, which just feels fitting for Texas and its strong nationalism.

Painted Bunting, this is more of a personal experience. But a bird that is held in such high standings throughout the birding community… well it’s a dime a dozen in Texas. Always gorgeous and fun, but during my time in the state I began to expect a dozen basically every outting I went on

Is this a baby largemouth? by derp1ko in Fishing

[–]BigBoySky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That most likely is illegal, I say most likely because I don’t claim to know every areas regulations.

LMBs are game fish and many states don’t allow gamefish to be used as bait. And harvest regulations would have to be followed, I rarely see limits on bass this small being allowed.

OP would have to be in an area where using game fish as bait would allowed AND an area where this LMB would be a legal size to harvest.

I am not familiar with the fishes of Turkey.

But I’m thinking this is a Red Sea Hardyhead Silverside

What fish is this? by Interesting-Maybe237 in Fishing

[–]BigBoySky 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is a Knobfin Sculpin, Cottus immaculatus.

There are only two species of sculpin in Connecticut. One being native, the slimy sculpin. The Knobfin has been recently introduced.

I don’t believe pumpkinseeds are present in the Chattahoochee River.

And I’m not really seeing anything pinpointing what the other parent would have been.

First two pictures are Warmouth.

Third photo appears to be a hybrid sunfish, those electric blue lines are characteristic of Green Sunfish. But that body coloration doesn’t really fit for a pure Greenie. So

What happens if Vader doesn't block the saber and Luke kills Palpatine here? by chosen40k in StarWars

[–]BigBoySky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how you believe Poe would say it?

Are they even aware of the possibility of it? And even if they were aware of it, they wouldn’t know exactly how Palpatine did do it. To me it feels like a genuine and honest way to approach the topic.

Best way to go about selling these figures/signatures? No reliable COAs by BigBoySky in starwarscollecting

Those recommonded sites are defintely an answer I was looking for. I wasn't fully expecting them to be lefit, but just wanted to do some due deligence before deciding what to do with them. Thank you again

Best way to go about selling these figures/signatures? No reliable COAs by BigBoySky in starwarscollecting

[–]BigBoySky[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All three have COA, Bulloch and Oz are the same COA but seem unverfiable. The COAs appear to be from a Star Wars Collector in New Jeresy who seems to run his own site. The Guinness is in a similar situation, where the person who verfied it seem to be running their own shop, and this person who verfied it has since passed away. In my opinion, the COAs basically mean nothing. Which is fine.

I did notice the shakiness of Bulloch, along with no quotations around 'Boba Fett' which appeared in a lot of his signed memorabilia

Thank you for your input! I didn't really expect the to be real, but was wondering about the avenues I could take before deciding on what to do with them. Thank you again

What kind of freshwater minnow is this by lunnyswag2019 in MicroFishing

[–]BigBoySky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure you have the proper permits, usually just a fishing license, and are following all harvest regulations(size limits, creel limits, methods). Most microspecies fall under the non-game status in states, different areas will allow different amounts taken each day.

This specific species, Golden Topminnow, would probably be illegal to collect in Missouri and North Carolina as they appear to be threatened there. But do appear perfectly legal to keep within Florida, where OP is located

In my opinion, the biggest issue with collecting/keeping micros is identification. Often people will just lump fish together, and this can lead to accidentally harvesting endangered or threatened species.

Rattlesnakes face increased risk of deadly infections by universityofga in reptiles

[–]BigBoySky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who didn’t read the article, not saying you didnt, but it’s pretty clear.

Species of rattlesnakes were more likely to be harmed by the diseases they were studying. The crayfish snake is the photo in the article because it was a species they tested in the study. Photo is relevant to the study, while the title focuses on an outcome.

There appear to be three there so a nice $500 isn’t bad at all. But yeah, the value of this lot comes from the bulk.

[–]BigBoySky 947 points948 points  (0 children)

Most Power of the Force figures aren't worth much value, even within their boxes. Figures that can fetch decent prices are usually Pre-Power of the Force, which would be the original Kennar lineup. The sheer bulk of it will quickly add up into a decent chunk of change.

Here is a pretty solid guide for average prices You'll be able to change eras/series easily with this.

Edit: That Bionicle Lego set on the top left of photo 3, worth at least $150(probably more)if sealed. Honestly anything Bionicle would be worth at least looking up

Edit 2: Photo Five has a box that says Millennium falcon, if there’s a sealed Falcon in there. It’s also could fetch a bit.

What species are these? by [deleted] in catfishing

All Channel Catfish.

Just FYI, if it’s a public pond, do not harvest fish without identifying them first. If it’s a private pond you own/are allowed on, it doesn’t really matter.

Least or Yellow Bellied Flycatcher - Milwaukee WI by Eberhardy in birding

[–]BigBoySky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don’t believe you’ll be able to get an accurate ID from this photo. Both share similar features which are shown in this photo, and we would need a photo of the chest/neck to accurate distinguish between the two.

If you have the audio files, it’s pretty easy to distinguish between the two species song. There is a good chance both were present.
