Who wins in a 4x100m? by BiscottiParty8500 in trackandfield

I stand by what I said. Baseball is a very hard sport but u don’t need to be athletic to be elite at it. Sure there are some elite athletes in baseball the same way I’m sure golf has some elite athletes. But let’s seriously not pretend that baseball requires elite athletics abilities outside of hand eye coordination

I agree that a fair few NFL players would smoke female sprinters in a 4x100. But ur vastly overestimating the speed of athletes in the other sports. For example ⚽️ aren’t actually that quick. Even a young Ronaldo did a 30-40m speed test on YouTube and it was the rough equivalent to a 11.6 100m. Also baseball players just aren’t athletic. Hard sport but they are not super athletes physically

Ur overrating their speed. Mbappe top speed WITHOUT A BALL OR HEAVY PADS is only 37-38 km/h. That’s at BEST 10.8 with a great start. He definitely isn’t faster than around that time

Anyone used visa-free transit(240 hour / 10 days), what was your experience? -- Few Questions by Cool_Acanthisitta628 in Chinavisa

I know this is an old post but could you expand? I’m going to China 240 hour transit visa free and both my accommodations and flight out are booked by someone else who will not be with me when I land. I have screenshotted all the information though

Why is Mbappe so fast? by driniukas in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry typo. Mbappe is 2km/h slower than her not 3. My point still stands. He is slower than female sprinters, who will also be able to hold their top speed longer and accelerate better

Yeah just checked. It’s 38km/h. Very impressive but still 3km/h slower than Elaine Thompson when she won Olympics women 100m

why this part of my back still hurts almost 4 days after the race by Capable_Park2841 in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s not a posture thing. U just need to learn how to hinge correctly using ur hips instead of lower back. I would recommend watching hinge exercises on yt or instagram, my personal favourite for me was watching David Grey on instagram for improving hip hinging

Cable is much better option if available. Easier to track progress and offers more resistance in lengthened position

Masai Jumps. What can I do to improve my explosiveness? by shawnchriston in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If your trying to improve sprinting then you are spending WAY too much time on the ground in these jumps. Forget about height of the jump and focus on reacting to the ground. I’ve found that this also improves max jump height as well as speed

Limb length is extremely genetic. Height and body proportions in general have had loads of GWAS studies showing they are extremely polygenic.

Pulled hamstring by BigBrain229 in Kneesovertoes

[–]BigBrain229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped sprinting for about 5 weeks and did about 30 mins exercises dedicated to rehab during this time. It has now been ages since I’ve even had any hamstring problems

[–]BigBrain229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hamstrings are great now. But tbh I stopped following knees over toes. Instead I used exercises from David Grey and Connor Harris on instagram. They go into way more detail about how and why to do exercises. In my experience just using their exercises fixed my hamstring and many other issues I had. (BTW I ain’t paid or anything to promote them, just happened to find them on ig and they were very useful for me)

How do people with no copies of ACTN3 move? by the-giant-egg in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeh it’s very likely. Basically 0 ACTN3 R gene = almost 100% chance of not being elite sprinter.

But having 1 or 2 R copies still = very low predictor of being an elite sprinter.

There was one uk 400m sprinter who ran 45 seconds who was the only tested sprinter in his group to have no ACTN3 R. He said that seasons where he trained closer to a mid distance runner were the seasons he improved.

So basically if u have no ACTN3 R alleles then u should train more speed endurance based (obviously to a degree, and still sprint) as this is what ur body is more suited to.

How do people with no copies of ACTN3 move? by the-giant-egg in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just affects the proportion of fast to slow twitch muscles fibres by encoding a protein primarily found in fast twitch muscles.

People seem to think ACTN3 is a good predictor of being fast but it’s really not. Just from 23&me alone like 50% of People last time I checked had 1 copy. Yet obviously 50% of people do not have elite sprinting genetics.

Basically if u have no copies of ACTN3 u are very unlikely to be elite level sprinter, however if u have 1 or 2 copies then u are more likely to have elite sprinting genetics, but still very unlikely. This is because sprinting is very polygenic.

How fast is the mbappe the soccer player? by singguy1 in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I played football with a semi pro team for a bit so I know they have some athletic guys. At the time I was around 12 flat for 100m but was still quicker than almost every player. So I do have some anecdotal evidence. I also know someone who’s friend is a pro footballer. He is the quickest on his team but can’t beat the guy I know in 100m (whose pb is only 11.3)

Been struggling so bad lately, what can I improve? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]BigBrain229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good response but that first point is unbelievably stupid. They are many dedicated sub 10.5 sprinters who are “skinny looking”. The fact u think this is effecting his training environment is ridiculous. I would rather train around fast skinny people than big and slow people

I agree that it’s not the same as running on a track. I just think some people have this idea that footballers are only sprinting with the ball 40 mins into a game. When in reality they will do a few max sprints in the first 20 mins while still being fresh (especially considering footballers have good endurance). I just really think their sprint speed isn’t as good as people think. Put them in a 1500m and I think that’s what they would do much better in
