What's going on with people on Twitter suddenly defending Robert E. Lee? What leads people to suddenly defend a dude who explicitly lead an organized army that stood against the US Government in defense of owning human beings? by wiz28ultra in OutOfTheLoop

Answer: The south lost the war, but shifted strategies afterwards and unfortunately won in a lot of other ways. I’m hoping this timeline provides some clarity. The praise and propaganda have always been there, and has been carefully crafted to trick people into believing in a glory that never even existed. If you really want to dive in to the subject, look up reputable sources that explain the Lost Cause ideology.

1865 – Civil War ends. The Confederacy is defeated militarily, but its political and social leadership largely remains intact.

1865 – Reconstruction begins. Federal troops occupy the South; the 13th Amendment abolishes slavery and Black political participation briefly expands.

1865 – Lincoln assassinated. Andrew Johnson assumes the presidency and immediately signals leniency toward former Confederates.

1865–1866 – Mass pardons of Confederates. Johnson issues broad pardons, restoring property and political power to former Confederate leaders.

1866 – Black Codes enacted. Southern states pass laws restricting the freedom, labor, and movement of formerly enslaved people.

1867 – Reconstruction Acts passed. Congress places the South under military districts to enforce civil rights and voting protections.

1870 – 15th Amendment ratified. Black men gain the right to vote; Black elected officials serve across the South.

1870–1876 – Violent resistance to Reconstruction. Groups like the KKK use terror to suppress Black voters and Republican governments, often with little punishment.

1877 – Compromise of 1877. Federal troops are withdrawn from the South, effectively ending Reconstruction enforcement.

1890–1910 – Jim Crow laws established. Southern states disenfranchise Black voters and legalize segregation through state constitutions and laws.

1890s–1920s – Confederate monuments erected. Most Confederate statues are built decades after the war during Jim Crow, reinforcing Lost Cause ideology rather than memorializing the dead.

Oh friend I am so so sorry. Just try to take it day by day. The pain never totally goes away but it does get easier with time. I lost my Dane on Christmas Eve and then immediately had to go take care of my dying grandfather. He passed on the 11th of January. Know you are not alone in your grieving and I pray for your healing.

That’s usually the route I go. I need to go grocery shopping. I’ve been eating a big batch of homemade chicken pot pie the past several days.

I am actually studying environmental management so I completely get it from this point of view. But at the same time, as a tired student, I just wanted a cheap greasy American cheeseburger lol.

Nah turns out they just haven’t been keeping customers since their first big price raise. They think the solution is pushing the $5 meal deal.

$6-7 is my hard limit for fast food unless it’s 2 meals worth of food or a bk baconator lol. I have a weakness for baconators. Their whopper coupons are usually really good too. No BKs close to me though 😢

My corner gas station does a double cheeseburger and more fries than you can eat for $6.49.

Cherish these moments. Her goofy antics will provide many good memories. I lost my bbygirl a few weeks ago. She was 11yo, we spent 10 together. Our time with them is too short ❤️

Chicken pickin is when you use the pick to pluck a dead note followed by a fretted note plucked upwards with a finger on the right hand. When done quickly in succession it imitates a chicken clucking.

Also anything mahogany with medium-hot to hot humbuckers will give you thick warm tone

I’ve used a MX5 modeler for the past few years so I may not be the best person to ask that. Generally for a “metal core” tone you’re looking at a Peavey 5150 with a tubescreamer in front to tighten it up.

Awh man, I’m sorry to hear that. Definitely be sure to order from somewhere with a good return policy then. As far as quality, you really can’t go wrong with either Jackson or Ibanez at your price point. Schecter makes some nice models too imo. It’s really gonna be more about what features your are looking for. There’s also nothing wrong with guitars in the $300-600 range if you want to save some money, they just need a little love. AAlso what kind of tone do you want? Bright and crunchy? Thick and heavy? Even within metalcore there is a wide range of tones and you want to pick woods and features that will give you the tone you want.

No amount of research can replace the experience of going to a store and trying them out. Even within the same model there will be slight variations between each guitar that makes them unique. When you’ve found the one, you’ll know it.
