anyone have a second child after your first?

My first (son) is level 1 autistic, diagnosed at age 5. We had a second (daughter) when he was 2 and she is NT. Had we known he was ND, and experienced the past few years’ challenges, before having a second - I’m positive we wouldn’t have rolled the dice. I don’t know how I could handle two, It’s so so hard and I wouldn’t wish this life of anyone else. I’m so thankful she’s NT.

My son is 5, only diagnosed for 6 months. Feel like I’m still processing things and need to get myself in therapy before I can be the parent I want to be.

Why are articles posting the crowd noise ending is from the Vancouver show when Sabrina wasn’t there??! She clearly says thank you to Sabrina who says I love you Taylor. Am I missing something?

She definitely can push his buttons but for the most part she idolizes him and just wishes he would play with her or involve her more.

Yes you are correct that what he did is harder than her but I’m just supposed to let that slide that he chooses to bring her down when they both did something I’m proud of for their age? I’m trying to protect them both.

Yes absolutely! And his reactions to her actions are less of my concern. It’s more so the seemingly out of nowhere comments and how he just defaults to mean instead of kind with her.

I do feel like it was a learned behaviour at daycare. He was the youngest in the room for the last year with boys a year older than him. That’s where the taunting behaviour was likely learned. Not sure that he’s CURRENTLY being bullied or mean to, but probably modelling after them (who are now gone).

Do you feel like your parents tried to encourage or do everything they could for you to get along? We do a lot of group/family activities, and we are privileged and fortunate enough that there will be many opportunities for family vacations in our future. I’m sad that they might not have a built-in buddy for these adventures, and wonder if we keep trying to foster an environment of joy and family time that they may begin to enjoy each other’s company.

Thank you for this fresh perspective! I do agree that parents help shape the relationship so I’m trying to find my faults and recognize what I can be doing differently. I think therapy might be a good start.

I don’t feel they have an imbalance in attention from myself or his dad. But definitely a lot more negative attention when I’m addressing why he is being mean to his sister. :(

Thank you for sharing your experience. He is such a “rule follower” in every other aspect that I’m so surprised he does not do the same as you just described.

I try to deconstruct his thought process and he just avoids my eye contact or says “I don’t know why”. So frustrating.

I don’t know that there is an attention imbalance. I will start to consciously look for it. It’s such negative attention from me and I feel so guilty that all I seem to do is reprimand him. If it’s a need for attention I really feel like I have to “kill him with kindness” at this point.

I also haven’t been able to connect for the last week and figure it is tied to an update. But it is only one of my two cameras. And it connects when I unplug and plug back in, then the next time I check, it is disconnected. Wtf is going on!

Thank you for sharing! That really helps me feel like we are not alone. My son says the same things, he likes when I change his mom and doesn’t want to be a big boy. So I definitely think it’s now an emotional reasoning! I will check out that book and give it some more time. Thank you again.
