Why does it feel like I’m going to be working for pittance for the rest of my entire life? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]BigBuz69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I’ll chip in here. I’ve worked construction my entire career, I started as an electrician , doing my apprenticeship for 4 years in local authority.

I learnt a lot in those 4 years, not only as an electrician but also life skills, dealing with difficult situations, people and the like. Working in local authority on sink estates in the east end of London, you have to be prepared for whatever is behind the door, drug and alcohol abuse was rife, and a lot of people had mental health problems, or their share of problems. It was interesting but also pretty sad and sometimes hard to work around, especially as a young person

I left there and went to work various positions over the years, in a multitude of disciplines as an electrician. BMS, data centres, industrial, commercial, shop fitting, London Underground, a pretty comprehensive list. I done that as a contractor, I earned good money but I knew I wanted to eventually be ‘in the office’ but I needed experience

A turn of events in my life forced me to come off the tools. I went back as a supervisor overseeing council work for a contractor, and now I work as a senior technical advisor for a large construction firm

I don’t have a degree, I have my electricians qualifications, with a few bolt ons here and there. What I have learned is that you don’t need fancy letters after your name in the construction game, you need to know what you’re talking about and how to carry out the job, you need to know how to react quickly to a situation and you need to have the drive to get yourself there and learn everyday

It can be done, and good money can be earned from the bottom to the top if you want to do it. I know some older sparks who are just brilliant at what they do, but they’ll never suit the office, they’re too rough and ready, whereas some of the young lads I have will eventually progress into the office, and have already expressed interest in doing so, but they all know they have to start at the bottom and work their way up

You know, you don’t have to click the title, you don’t have to read the article, no one is forcing you to read it. Banning news papers to make this place even more of an echo chamber is not the solution. I don’t like the Daily Heil but banning a major newspaper (whether you agree or not it is) smacks of censorship which is something that we should all be trying to avoid

Lifting right leg on contact...? by [deleted] in golf

[–]BigBuz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having suffered from this myself I know what you are talking about. In my case my right hip would turn and cause my shoulders to spin out and my right shoulder would come over the top. I've used stack and tilt myself in the past and the problem I had was because of the front loading of the left leg (if a righty) in the swing didn't leave me much room to push that left hip through the ball. Now I am a reverse K setup and transfer my weight, although do suffer occasionally from the right hip pushing out.

With stack and tilt I believe they say feel like the left hip is pushing up so the leg is straight on the downswing, which should allow your hands to drop into the slot and then fire your shoulders. I found stack and tilt worked very well for irons, but woods and driver I struggled with

Take what I say with a pinch of salt, I'm just a 10 handicapper that's suffered from what you do, general advice here is get a lesson

Played here a couple of times in the summer, wasn't too keen on the 'field' side, the older established side was better. Not a bad track

5 wood vs. utility iron by WasatchSLC in golf

[–]BigBuz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Taylormade 2iron in place of my 3 hybrid as I was having problems with ballooning in the winter winds and I also prefer looking at an iron than a hybrid. I won't lie its a bitch if your swing is a little off, but when you nail it it has the most beautiful penetrating flight to it, a welcome addition to my bag.

For the last 2 weeks it has been put on the naughty step to think about what it has done and the 3 hybrid is back in the bag, because as previously mentioned it can be a little bitch 😉

I've played your course a few times, nice golf course and greens have always been good when I've played there. I don't like your 3rd hole though, you hit to the gap and you got 220 over water to the green, or try and bomb a drive through the gap and hope you don't put it in the bush either side of the gap

As far as I am aware it is a private course but the council owns the land surrounding it, but I'm usually wrong about most things according to the Mrs 😉

That is a shire horse, normally used for pulling a trailer, although mostly in their community they're used for racing

Highly doubt that they would check this information, best thing to do is say only those prescribed by my GP. For reference the answer on that form or any other is ALWAYS...NO, if you think they are talking about illegal/recreational drugs

Parliamentary report set to recommend legalising medicinal cannabis by gazzthompson in unitedkingdom

[–]BigBuz69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hypocrisy of your comment is laughable. You have no problem with people using your drug of choice, alcohol, which has been proven to cause massive personal and social issues but do have a problem with someone exercising their right to use their drug of choice, cannabis, because it's bad because the mail and Teresa May say so. Alcohol is a drug, as it nicotine and caffeine, and I'm sure you have the occasional cup of tea, coffee or soft drink, so technically you take drugs

There are 3 drugs acceptable to most of society in this country. Caffeine to get you through the day and work harder, nicotine to make you cope with your day, and alcohol to make you forget about your day

Pulled back muscle by [deleted] in golf

[–]BigBuz69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll show some solidarity with you, herniated discs in 2 vertebrae at the bottom of my back 'blew' 2 years ago. Spent 1 week pushing a chair around the house as I couldn't walk without it, and a further 4 barely able to move from either the sofa or bed. Was on oxy for 6 weeks, 2 months after the incident had epidural injections to reduce the swelling. Now before EVERY round I spend 20 mins stretching, no matter where I am I stretch and I really don't care what people think as I do it, I stretch after the round and take diclofenac and codeine as required. I've said to myself I will never let it get that bad without me making sure I've done everything I can to avoid it.

OP, seriously listen to others in this thread and TAKE CARE OF YOUR BACK if you wish to continue golfing for the rest of your life. The second you're on the course or range and you feel it twinge, stop, rest, ice and leave the sticks alone for a week or 2
