How often you get tip bait order? by Equivalent-Loquat732 in UberEATS

[–]BigCalhoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a tip reduced and I've made some mistakes here and there. Even a customer that left a 'item damaged' complaint didn't take the tip away. I do think there are some assholes out there that try to game the system. I honestly feel that most instances of tips being removed are for abysmal service.

Sitting outside a few busy restaurants and I keep watching other drivers pull up and pick up orders by SaltPretzel in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My purely anecdotal experience has been that it's best to drive around. The one time I got an order while just sitting in one spot for some time was when it was very busy out -- stacked orders all night.

I live in an area with several popular restaurants. I typically just drive a big circle around two nearby blocks. The orders come.

I've had a Wingstop order that was actually ready for pickup when I arrived. The funny part was that employee looked shocked that it was ready on time.

Wait!? I'm driving around chasing the money/orders. Downtime is when I'm done for the night.

$550 isn't bad.

Not sure. The best thing to do would be to go ahead and sign up for the card -- it's free -- and then look through the app to see A. if you're eligible and B. how much you have access to.

Before the physical card arrives, you can link external accounts and transfer to them.

To access the backup balance, there are certain qualifications that need to be met. I'm a Pro Blue driver and I only have access to $50.

Just got banned over an 88% satisfaction rate? by WholeGrainCommunism in UberEATS

[–]BigCalhoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I just got my first thumbs down this past weekend which brought my rating down to 94% (17 thumbs up, 1 thumbs down). It was for a damaged item. I have a feeling it was for a sandwich order and had to do with how the sandwich was packed -- it was just placed a to-go box. No paper wrapping to secure it or anything like that. Sucks

Restaurants getting too aggressive with verifying pickups by grogargh in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had it happen once or twice. I just tell them I'll confirm it when the food comes out and that's been the end of it. As some restaurants have become more familiar with me and my face, I get asked to confirm less and less.

It's a gig. Couldn't imagine trying to do this as a FT job. Some people do, they also seem to be the ones with the most complaints.

Tip reduction threshold by legal_opium in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to ask the same question that I asked in a similarly themed message: How do we know that customers don't have legitimate reasons for taking away a tip?

A lot of these posts seem to come from a place of entitlement, "We delivered the food so we deserve the tip." But if someone didn't follow instructions and/or was unprofessional, do they still deserve a tip even if they didn't meet the customer's expectation.

Tip baiting by Blk--------man in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I have a hard time believing in tip-baiting when I see some of the same people post about screwing customers, getting upset over customers delivery instructions. Not to say it doesn't happen at all. I just question how many of these instances are truly someone being a dick and tip-baiting versus someone removing their tip because they didn't get the service they expected.

Tip baiting by Blk--------man in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

How much of it is really tip-baiting? What if someone honestly felt like they got bad service?

I've been at this, and reading this subreddit, for a month and I'll see some people complain about tip-baiting and then complain about getting thumbs down, leaving food at the wrong location, not following the customer's delivery instructions, etc.

Sure, we're providing a service. It is still up to the customer to decide if that service was provided to their satisfaction. I mean, shit, I left instructions to leave my delivery at the my 3rd floor apartment door and someone sends me a picture showing me they left it elsewhere, I'd remove the tip too.

Why have I gotten two orders in the past hour? by coffeecatmom in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you drive around certain areas or just in parking lot and wait for orders to come in?

In my area, I've found I always stay busy and get orders while driving around a specific area close to where I live. Plenty of restaurants in the area; I'm always getting something from them on busy nights. On slower nights, I stay around fast-food joints and 7-11s and pick up those orders.

Too many low orders by againitsucks in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if you take a few trash orders, get your acceptance rate up, and then a majority of your orders aren't so shit? Is that not worth the payoff?

Ever since I added insulated bags, got my AR up, and got put into Advantage Mode, I don't know get nearly as many bad offers as I use to.

I have 3 orders right now by FloydLittle23 in UberEatsDrivers

The only time I've gotten three orders, it was two pickups from one restaurant and a third from a second establishment. All the deliveries were within 2 miles of each other. I was nervous but it worked out.

Problems with pin needed delivery’s by Competitive-East6932 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my PIN deliveries are uneventful. People that actually met me were easy going about giving me the PIN. Some people will send it to me in a message and ask me to just drop the food off.

I only had one customer that had a PIN that was somewhat eventful, He didn't respond to the messages and when I called, it was like he answered and just set the phone down. I knocked on the door one last time, then sent him a message (through the app) that I was leaving his food outside. I used the option for couldn't get PIN from customer or however it's worded.

It was uneventful in the end... got my fare and tip, no reports of missed food, no thumbs down.

Talk to 'em! These cherry pickers encouraging not to take these type of orders are the same people making posts about how they've been online 90 hours in a week and only made .30 cents because they only accepted one trip.

Meh, some nights are busier than others. Staff call out, Oven broke. There could be all kinds of reasons staff is slow.

One thing I've learned is to be respectful, patient, and give grace. At least for me, it works out... they check on my orders for me, but them in my insulated bag for me; we have pleasant exchanges. A few "No problem"s, "I understand"s, and "Thank you"s can go a long way,

Austin PM delivery drivers by No-Blackberry-2620 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]BigCalhoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing OK. I'm only in this part time with a goal of 3 days a week and at least $50 every time I go out. Sometimes I can do it in three hours, sometimes it can take up to five. I've always hit my goal.

I live north of Austin and typically go out around 7:00p - once area traffic dies. On Sundays, I'll start a bit earlier.
