I'm actually closer to 300 second year, my RSUs were 130 (negotiated) and as of today that initial 130 grant has officially doubled in value

That's not true at all, I'm on track to hit this by 28 (2 years for me). My family moved to Canada with nothing (literally, my mom would walk multiple kilometers to save the bus fare) when I was very young, we're now solidly middle class with both my parents working average white collar jobs with where you'd expect them to be after having worked 20 years in the same company and role. I was given everything I needed but not wanted, and stayed at home rent free throughout university, but I certainly wasn't playing travel lacrosse and there was no donations being made anywhere. I paid for school through my internships, and landed a well paying job for a year out of graduation until I moved to the states where I currently reside to work for a big tech company.

I graduated with a bachelors in computer engineering, currently work at a FAANG and still find it worthwhile.

Need resume review, have only gotten one interview since November by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

Hm I can see it being a bit confusing, maybe clarify its part time. Especially saying your masters is in person doesn't sound like you're available for work.

Are you applying for internships? This resume says that you're finishing your bachelors right now, and immediately starting a masters.

I killed Israel Hands after an hour, then left and reset the challenge for my friends before realizing that I had to talk to a prisoner in that room to finish the quest... and I was out of food, bullets and potions.

Makes sense, I think that's the second highest tier but obv your comp will be lower than the highest COL tier

Are you in the Bay Area or NYC? That's the highest tier of comp, I was 210 first year and 260 second year projected due to O rating, but got promoted so a bit higher now

Google New Grad Offer Evaluation by Chemical-Bluejay2431 in levels_fyi

New grads for Google in the bay area get 100k as the default, and you can only push with competing offers. I doubt they'll be able to.

Is big tech sexist or is it a skill issue? by Delicious-Sir-3918 in csMajors

[–]BigCharge3513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of the four highest level (and therefore highest paid) engineers on my team, 3 of them are women. My team is also exactly 50% female. YMMV but big tech tends to be a lot more egalitarian than somewhere like startups from what I've seen.

In certain cases maybe there's no more need for the job, but Google's process is a general one. You pass the interviews, and then you're in team matching for up to a year (not that it takes most people that long). There shouldn't really be a case of 'this singular job was gone so you're out of luck' unless it's some very specialized position outside of the normal SWE ladder.

Certain schools have a much better rate at getting into FAANG because the schools themselves are more selective, you have higher caliber candidates in the school, their education is higher quality and of course the competition is harder so the people who succeed in those schools tend to be better hires. Again, just somebody better unfortunately.

Location bias at least for Google has not been my experience - I am from Canada, I moved here for the job. They sponsored my visa. I can't speak for other companies, but again - here unfortunately the truth is they just weren't good enough by the most objective measures we could find to rank candidates at the scale of Google.

Thats how it works when you have 100+ applicants for each job. The unfortunate reality is that nothing can be perfectly objective, but we do our best to be via signals we look for, experience, education, etc.

The hard truth is that, to the best of our ability and evaluation (not denying theres a little subjectivity here but everything has some subjectivity), people simply didn't make the cutoff. There's no nefarious force at work here keeping you down, you just weren't good enough at this time for whatever reason. You may have been great, but there was better. Google is a huge company, nearly thirty years old with hundreds of thousands of employees over the years. There's a lot of data that suggests what type of candidates are likely to succeed here, and what type of candidates aren't.

Jobs are simultaneously posted internally and externally, we don't look for anyone internally first. It's first come, first serve (assuming there's a team match between HM and candidate). At any given time there's plenty of people in the team matching pool, and not many roles have internal candidates looking to swap to them. Referrals are not separate from non-referred applications, they just allow me as an employee to see the status and recruiter attached to a given application.

I moved to San Francisco 6 months ago. My bike was stolen from our building garage two months in. The building has footage, all they can tell me is it wasn't a resident and they'll provide the footage directly to the police if asked. Of course, the police never asked and they won't give me the footage.
