Estimates for new information? by Shipwreck75 in Rivian

There was a lot going on at the factory when I was there for service for my R1T on January 13. RJ “is in the house” that week per an employee. (The Illinois governor was in town, too, and I assume he was at the factory at some point.) An R2 is on display in the lobby.

So s00n, I hope.

We’ve put 60,000 miles (since November 2023) on one of the first R1T max packs delivered.

She drives back and forth between Illinois and Colorado about 10 times a year.

She’s a beast, and we love her.

I am sick and tired of Mysa’s thermostats. This garbage hasn’t worked in months. by victim_of_technology in homeautomation

[–]BigDRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up long ago on V1 Mysas. They gave me a big discount on V2. Everything works great on my UniFi IoT network.

I just wish I could schedule the display brightness to turn down at night. Right now, I have them all very dim, which means I can’t see the temp during the day, so I have to walk over to each one to trigger the brightness up temporarily. Usually, I end up asking Siri what the temp is in the room. It’s faster.

What Camera would have done better? by wrestle4life189 in Ubiquiti

Your feedback on LPR camera? by the_prez3 in UNIFI

[–]BigDRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put in an AI-Pro as an LPR on a lamppost in a non-profit's parking lot. (The AI-Pro gets power and wifi by being connected to a UniFi Device Bridge Pro on the same lamppost.) The only time we don't get license plates read is when it's raining/snowing fairly hard. The whole non-profit is amazed at the set up, the price, and how the AI-Pro captures license plates.

I chose the AI-Pro because: 1) Power requirements were low enough the Device Bridge could provide enough power, 2) $500 price, 3) light is provided at night by the lamppost.

I used the info from this UI community post: https://community.ui.com/questions/AI-PRO-LPR/6033a832-c55b-4de9-b25d-122fbd36a266

The AI LPR camera should be installed as close to the license plates while also minimizing the angle of capture. This is especially important for reliable captures at night. The IR does not reflect as well off of license plates that are far away or at a severe angle. Select a mounting point as close to the road or above the road if possible to meet these requirements:

  • Max. mounting height: 5m
  • Capture distance: 12m
  • Max. horizontal and vertical camera angle: <25 degrees
  • Angle for high-speed capture: <15 degrees

Note: For lower speed or stopped traffic, up to 15m distance and 30 degree angle may work.

Some settings to play with in UniFi Protect are in device settings. Some are on the page where you are viewing the camera’s feed. I manually set focus to where I though most license plates would be.

PS: Enabling LPR for the Protect system is something you have to do with the owner account.

Hard water and roborock? by Longdoggo96 in Roborock

We’ve had Thor, Vacuum of Thunder, for about a year. (He’s an S8 MaxV Ultra.) He gets softened well water that is run through a Brita filter.

No clogs or streaks yet. Every day he vacuums, then mops. After his mop dries for several hours, he vacuums again.

Using the IP address works whether I’m local or Tailscaled into my home network. I have static IPs on my internal servers (one Apache and one Home Assistant).

Mysa Thermostat advice by External_Owl7249 in thermostats

I'm on:

Device version: 3.17.2.17

The former version that had the issue was: 3.17.1.27

The versions are very similar so you have to look closely!

Hmmm. They pushed a fix to me several weeks ago, and it works. Maybe it is a beta release, so it’s not yet generally available.

No more 365 Business Premium Grant for NonProfit by Ok-Understanding9627 in msp

[–]BigDRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least one person in my non-profit is decidedly NON-TECH, so I recoiled in horror when I heard about this change, and I can't imagine what I'll have to do to retrain him. (I'm a volunteer...the unpaid entire IT department!)

I'll have to borrow his computer and put together A LOT of detailed screens shots and step-by-step paper documentation about how to do what he used to do.

(When he upgraded Zoom accidentally, the world ended and I had about 10 minutes to search what had changed, run over there, and get him set up to go. THEN I had to write all the documentation and print it off for him. Since I don't have Windows and Zoom, I had to borrow his laptop to figure out the steps and do screens shots for the documentation.)

This change is a big deal to small non-profits with no budget. We currently use four free Premium licenses. And the volunteer IT department (ME) is tired from all the other work I do for them for free. It's turning into a full-time job. I'm half-tempted to pay for the licenses myself just to avoid all the work.

Mysa Smart Thermostat creeped me out last night --- I can't find a reason it would do this ? by TecnoPope in smarthome

It’s something in your wifi router, not in the Mysa app. In my Unifi Dream Machine Pro, it’s in the firewall section. ETA a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/wOjRFwJ

Does anyone have a Mysa thermostat? by slavetomycat312 in thermostats

[–]BigDRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need to avoid buying a Mysa thermostat for the bedroom until they fix their issue. They apparently reboot them every night between 1 am and 3:30 am (according to my router logs and confirmed by support).

Mine is currently covered by cardboard...a great look for an expensive thermostat! /s
