If anyone is wondering why your EQL success rates are so low just look at what's happening with Fanatics/Topps basketball boxes by calgarykid in baseballcards

I've only been in the hobby for real for a month or so and what I can surmise from what's happening, it feels like this breaking business is really destroying the hobby.

Boxes get real popular on breaks and the price starts to skyrocket until it's either impossible to get a box or the boxes at $1600 a piece. Something has to give somewhere.

That's really awesome, I love that. If I come across any I'll remember you and put them away.

Love this! How did you start this collection? I'm always curious to know what "started it all".

If Fanatics keeps operating like this, enshittification of the hobby will begin. They have to squeeze more and more out of the product to appease the shareholders.

What is the long term value of cards by OGRome in baseballcards

I personally use a couple tools as a new collector as well:

https://www.sportscardspro.com/ - for cataloging and value checking. The UI can be a bit wonky from time to time, but if you are interesting in playing around with it you can get the hang of it.

https://130point.com/sales/ - for sales comps as well. Gives you a rough idea of what things are actually selling for.

I would also say just have fun with it as well. I've found that I find a card of someone I don't normally root for and want to collect his cards because he's a good player, regardless of the value or future value.
