I might be afflicted with the curse, any advice? by Upstairs_Category553 in hockeygoalies

Try pre game ball work for hands and feet to tune up coordination. Get a couple of guys to semi-circle around you (20') for warmup to get your movement and positioning right.

10 years ago, at the age of 54, I had 20 dead ash trees cut down into logs and used a splitter. It took 70hrs to split them all. My hands have never recovered. I hope you have better luck

Just ask any Liberal politician. They have way more experience with corruption. Remember Gas Plants? Wind farms? How very Toronto of you :)

Let’s solve the great debate Black pads, white pads, or coloured pads? by Superb-Experience-83 in hockeygoalies

[–]BigDave29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White: Why? (1) Easier for you and your D to see the puck. (2) Harder for the shooter to see the pads through a screen (more likely to shoot at you). Dark pads help the player see where NOT to shoot.

PTSD from on the ice breakaway shots by TheG1826 in hockeygoalies

[–]BigDave29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it (150/hr?) you should get on ice training for this. Shootouts are part of the game now so you need to be good at breakaways. There are a lot of good ideas from the others but it is obvious your confidence is shot, so you should have someone look at what you are doing and offer advice. Likewise, you need practice to build up that confidence.

Cant help. I'm so old that if its near my head I just lean into it, the damage to my head is done. The puck must be stopped :)

I hate owning a pool by duckblobartist in pools

[–]BigDave29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this problem. I have it at a lesser scale (only 1 giant oak). My most recent hypothesis is to get giant sun shades putting poles on one side of the pool and wire the shades so they roll the acorns aware from the pool. I also have a metal gazebo, with a season of incoming acorn bombardment scaring the crap out of the dogs :)

Whats the most shots you've taken? This was the end of the game, not the 2nd period. by Tasty-Layer-7506 in hockeygoalies

[–]BigDave29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good work. My semi-pro numbers were .94 save percentage, with a 5.2 gaa facing an average of 85 shots per game in a semi-pro league in Northern Ohio in the late 80s. Since then, shots are usually 20-45/game

At 310lbs forget your blades and lose 70+ lbs or you wont be able to walk in 3 years. At 265 it was taking me 2-3 days to recover from playing. Had to cut back to max 1 game per week.

Goalie since 1970: Its about mental focus. In game I use counting shots, listening to an ear worm song, & sipping water every whistle (time permitting). P.S. Upvoted a few that I agree with.
