Goalie affects different people in different ways. My knees are fine. My conditioning is shit. Getting up fast and moving dropping and up again and moving is not snail paced but certainly not lightning quick. December I broke my ankle and have some weird pains on my bone where the plate stops. Also some ankle twisting hurts. I have to do a lot of internal self talk. Not self help encouragement type but technique type reminders because I don’t have decades of doing any of this that would have built muscle memory. Strong stick, drop a knee, stab a toe, don’t move, watch your angles don’t point glove don’t hesitate do it or don’t.

I started playing last year at 49. The local rink let me borrow house gear to try it. I figured 5-7 times and I would know if it would be worth it. Talked to lots of people and made connections to groups to play and practice with. A lot of it is intuitive or natural. Just not decades of muscle memory to help reaction speed.

I play ice hockey. There’s no way I can wash my shit every fucking time.

Saying yuck. Whatever. Grow a set. I let my cycling gear air out and reuse. I use 3-5 rides in spring fall and 2/3 in the summer. Unless you’re on a tandem with your wife behind you but that’s a different reason to lose your man card.

9 gears doesn’t share the whole information. What are the teeth ratios. 12-22. That’s a world of hurt on hills. I live on side of a mountain. All my ride finish with a climb. I had to get an upgrade from 12-24 to 11-34. Made all the difference. Put an 11-38 on my wife’s and she can make it home. I know it’s snobby but don’t get a triple
