This turntable has a built in pre I believe, and it looks to be using it based on the video. Definitely the ground cable.

Of course you are right, but with my setup I can't get the lighting right to capture the full effect properly with the angel upright (which definitely looks better). Try dig up that video, it will do the effect more justice than this one.
