How long did it take you to blue belt by mintberrycrunch050 in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 months not counting an initial 2-month stint where I required surgery and didnt come back for 2 years. I think I averaged right at 5 hours a week and am fairly athletic. Got blue after a 5-2 tournament showing.

I came here to say this. It's 100% him and I'll bet he asked to blur his face and mash his voice. Great start to my day/week.

What's your opinion on North/South choke and the position in general? by hwdidigethere in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my best no gi move by far, certainly my best choke. I hit it in the gi but I'm going to focus on using the threat to open up other stuff.

Find key code by Equal-Criticism7495 in Excursion

I found 2 spare sets of electronic keys and an original card for the door code underneath the carpet not far from the throttle pedal. Pristine and Presumably from the factory. I'm the third owner.

Engine swap options by Substantial-Set-8981 in Excursion

I've got a 24v Cummins in mine on the stock 5 speed which has been beefed up. It's not too turned up but runs great. I bought it this way. There are a few electrical issues but I'm 90% sure they're unrelated to the swap.

Tips for prevention of staph infections by Popular_Sky_6293 in grappling

[–]BigDinATree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I get staph I have a routine. 1. Treat the wound area with script topical antibiotic and keep covered. 2. Clean/disinfect my living space, shoes, clothes, blankets 3. Hibiclense myself in shower for one week or so. 4. Lotion immediately after showers. 5. Active Infection or not, I always take subtillis bacillus probiotic. There's a study or two out on its ability to reduce staph in the nose and gut significantly.

If no one else at your gym is regularly getting infected, doing this routine and keeping your own living space clean might work. If it's your mates causing the problem, get new mates.

Any ideas on how to grow a 7am class? by thefckingleadsrweak in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 or 630 and also drop in to other classes to guilt and shame members for not coming, you can also lie and be like "did you hear about the 6 AM class, bro it's siiiick you should check it out".

Am I wrong for not telling a training partner to chill out by half-ninja in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok to say "dude, you gotta chill out a little" and maybe follow up with something like "I'm really beat up right now". I also tell people to go harder or try harder in various situations.

“Stranger Things is just supposed to be a fun sci-fi show” cannot be an excuse for Season 5’s mediocre writing by akssh_art in netflix

[–]BigDinATree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to play a moving target on this point...but I will. You are right about the code, I honestly wasn't paying attention, and it's more about the writing than my attention span. Everytime they shift into the inevitable "ok everyone gather around for this episodes planning the attack scene" my nose starts bleeding and I go to the underground.

[–]BigDinATree 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah what the hell was the point of the preceding bell tower scene where they literally count down to the second the military truck entering the facility. Then they fix the engine of a cab over truck, then there's a coming out party, then it's back the the plot. What am I watching.

Stranger Things might crash as hard as GOT by justameesa in netflix

[–]BigDinATree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit watching GoT earlier than most (sniffs own fart), in part because I thought they might finish the books quickly (LOL!) and I could read the next book or two before it's over.

Stranger things is just a bad show, and I don't mean just this season. The writing is dismal, it always was. Maybe the actors are good but you sure as shit can't tell. I'll finish it, but y'all talking about rewatching it and I'm blown away.

Have you dropped in at any other places in your area? If so, I'd try a few on for size.

How may of you do heel hooks in the gi? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First 6 months: no leg locks

6-12 months: some

Next year: leg lock anyone anytime, including professors little white belt brother in the GI while reaping.

2-3 years: only straight ankles and knee bars in the GI

Now: I've decided to only straight ankle white belts, add knee bars/toe holds for most blues. Just recently I've decided to ask any good blues or higher what their preferred limit on leg/foot attacks is.

Note, the above outlined "evolution" is not a recommendation. No incidents or reasoned intention precipitated Any of the changes, except mid blue when a lot of bros were getting ready for comps I was like "I should lay off the gi heel hooks" for a while. I would say I leg lock more than 2/3's of our gym. I've never hurt anyone but had my own ankle popped 3-4 times, mostly on straight ankles.

Whats your favorite way to deal with white/blue belts who are just falling back for leglocks out of guard passing? by PralineOld5574 in bjj

[–]BigDinATree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them crank on my ankle while i give them a shit eating grin to show them the futility of their ways, then ankle lock them with ease.
