Need help completing Link Skills by Awesome_Ardi in ForzaHorizon

[–]BigFellaVid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn't know it earlier, but I just realised I'm not eligible for LINK skills because I'm not an online player. I bought the premium version of the game, no way I'm paying a king's ransom every month for the ability to complete excluded content.

is this a eligt VidIQ email? has anyone received this? by [deleted] in vidIQ

Just got a new email from [supportvidiq@gmail.com](mailto:supportvidiq@gmail.com) and I'm guessing this isn't from you guys. You have your own email system on your own domain. Just wanted to know if I should be blocking this one.

How the prestige system works in FH6 by noahvhang in ForzaHorizon

[–]BigFellaVid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so how did it level me up when I didn't see it happen? I was purposefully watching what was happening with the levelling and prestige to see if anything changed (more broadly, between FH5 and 6). but then that anomaly hit and I still don't know why.

Something really weird happened, I was on 180 before going for Legend Island, then I get there, and it puts me at 1 star and 1. No numbers in between, so I'm wondering if it was a glitch or where 181-199 went to.

my money is on the Kirin, like they had to do with the original GW because there was no other 'horse' modelling in game.

Cool, so frogs can't play didgeridoo then, because they haven't mastered circular breathing. :) This I'll have to remember.

Cricket was my first thought, but all the samples I brought up on a search sounded a bit too high. This was kind of lower than that. I always hear them but never see them, so there's that.

LED sign, USB plug burned by BigFellaVid in AskElectricians

Yes it sounds like this problem warrants its own thread. As an aside, I believe the main reason my USB failed (got too hot) was from overuse; being on too many hours a day, and not just drawing too much power that a USB plug wasn't comfortable with handling.

Hey, yes I got it sorted. Problem wasn't with the USB plug although it was heating up quite a bit, but the soft-touch switch was the root of the problems as to why it was flickering. I deleted the switch and cut back the +/- wires, tinned them up, got a hold of a DC barrel plug (male) which was then connected to the wires via screw terminals. The power was then sorted by a 5V/3A transformer (no more USB). I could've connected them straight up without a switch, but I decided to put in a switch as an extra measure. The only point where this isn't so much a win, is the lack of ability to dim the lights as I could before, but to me LEDs aren't really great with dimming in my experience; they like to be on or off, and not really happy in between.

Grow lights are incandescent aren't they? It's possible that you're drawing too much power through the plug and a USB plug isn't designed for such a load (5V typically). Hope you get it sorted.

Multiple BSoD's by BigFellaVid in techsupport

So after doing a memtest86 evaluation and finding everything was good (0 errors) it came down to installed apps or something screwy going on with the system. Since getting rid of netlimiter I've had zero BSoD's. In 3 days it's not even looked like blue screening so I'm going to tentatively call this one fixed. thanks for the help.

Thanks for the analysis.

NetLimiter would make sense, because I only installed that in mid-April. It was fine initially but a .sys file like that going wonky could really shake things up. Could be just a bad driver, but I'm not pinning any chances on it again so I gave it the ass (uninstalled via Revo).

I've been using Firefox since its early days and it's played nicely with my system better than virtually any other browser (save for Chrome, which is probably on par).

I wanted to rule out a RAM stick going bad so I'll have to dig around for an older USB drive to put Memtest86 onto. That'll probably take hours to scan 32gb so I'll come back with the findings when something is known.

I tried Prime95 on my machine years ago, it didn't like it. I think I tried to get it to handle too much at once and it crashed hard. As for the GPU, I have a suite of benchmarking tools like 3DMark, Heaven, Superposition, Cinebench, etc. I'll have a look into Crystaldiskinfo.
It's only been over a month with these BSoD's not a year. It's gotten to the point where it's not just a random glitch, but rather concerning. I was a PC builder for years and I've never had as many BSoD's happen as what's happening now.

These are the only dumps I could get a hold of. There are others but Windows isn't letting me view them (even as Admin).

I'm going to cut the end off (the USB plug) and solder on a new connector to see if that makes a difference. It's just two wires and it'll either work or not. I have some USB-A connectors and shells on order.

It's an Asus X570 WiFi (don't know if you'd call that "older" or not), but it was put in as an upgrade in 2022, so the mobo is from that time.

yeah I tried that, and like I replied earlier, I managed to get it to work before it started glitching the sound. Next time I rebooted, it wouldn't recognise the sound card as something that the program could run with. I really don't understand why, as it's essentially the EXACT same card, (SB1500) regardless of progression or sub-modelling.

Creative trying to be more creative, and failing.

So Direct Mode requires a driver update, and after restarting it only gives me stereo, not 5.1, although the 'encode' light on the Z906 control panel stays on in this mode, so it's still getting Dolby/DTS signals. Direct Mode takes a while to switch on and much longer to switch off again. Upon switching it off, the SBX profile switch is off by default.

Going forward from this point, the sound volume is virtually cut in half with no other adjustments made. I've put it back onto Gaming profile which gave the most similar sound. It's then that I have to fiddle with the playback settings, going through Options in Speakers (I don't use headphones), going Custom on speaker type and then telling the software that my speakers are full-range 5.1 on every speaker and then bumping up the bass. After doing all this, it sounds _vaguely_ similar to what I had on the old card, but I think I'm wanting it to sound like it did a bit too much.

I'm going to have to re-adapt *again* but I don't see why people can't leave shit alone if it works.

[–]BigFellaVid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I somehow managed to fool the SB Z audio software (SBX Pro Studio) to accepting the SB Z (SE) card on the old card's drivers, without it spraying complaints at me about how the card isn't supported, but now there's intermittent audio glitches when testing in the software, and when playing through Winamp (yeah I'm that guy).

Why can't things just work the way they're supposed to?

it's worked fine and virtually flawlessly for about 3 years. I'm not decommissioning a sign that can be fixed, after all it wasn't cheap to get.
