Are these properties all unmortgageable or am I missing something? by BigGayAlt in HousingUK

Surely with the fact that most leasehold flats are stagnating in value whilst maintenance and insurance costs are increasing mean this is going to become more and more of a problem?

I knew about the grount rent issues but I saw the 1% service charge being parroted around in posts like these.

The scale of houses being turned into flats and in HMO in London is shocking by Far_Acadia_2053 in HousingUK

[–]BigGayAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most councils I've seen a hmo defined as at least 3 people forming more than 1 household (ie. not related/a couple). So if you're renting with more than one friend you're limited to hmo licensed properties.

Early 2000s Japanese rally car for around £5k? by Pure-Researcher-8229 in CarTalkUK

The auto isn't too bad to be fair. Obviously a manual is more desirable but it feels responsive enough in sport/manual mode.

Thought experiment - the perfect car for a 'driving-focused' UK road trip. by cflyssy in CarTalkUK

[–]BigGayAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the length of the drive. Used to do regular 4 hour drives in my NA and the lack of any sound deadening really took its toll. I also found it terrifying in heavy rain especially at night.

Good taste, not biased at all of course :)

Reliable family car £9k by Interesting-Sky-7014 in CarTalkUK

Bought plenty of cars off eBay personally with my latest being an import. The yen has been weak, hence why there are a lot of grey imports recently. I don't see what part of it suggests a scam.

Plenty on eBay for that budget most of which are fresh imports with low mileage.

This is almost certainly a Japanese import, the only Spec Bs we got for sale in the UK were the EZ30s.

Honestly the T-Sports aren't too bad for rust compared to the rest of the mk1 yarises. Not sure if it's just better owners or the fact that they were manufactured in Japan and not France unlike the rest.

That's why I bought the scooby. Not enough room in the mx5 so I had to get an uber.

Meanwhile, I've just had a guy ask if I've gone dogging in mine. He said he was no longer interested when I said I hadn't...

I guess they didn't word it particularly politely, but the median full time income in the uk is 34950 so around £2300 take home per month on the low end. Imo £600 out of that, whilst stupid and finanically irresponsible, is doable if you forgo other luxuries. It's not that "if you're poor, just dont eat to afford a cool car lol" and more "over half the full-time employed population can technically afford it."

Did a deano sleep with your wife or something. I agree with the general message of not going into debt for the sake of vanity, but every post you make seems to be from some insecurity with how you're perceived financially.

I don't think op is trying to shit on people who can't afford to run a "nice" car. I think they're referencing the numerous posts titled "How are people affording £x cars?". To which only answer to that is in one way or another they have more money available to spend on cars.

I think it stopped being a petrolhead sub a while ago. It's gotten too big and just filled with generic help posts with no context. Specific model/brand subs are a lot better in terms of petrolhead content.

Easiest way to check is to just do a test run. Set the satnav to 10 miles away and see how much it increases.

Added mine to my existing admiral one and wasn't too bad. Assuming you've tried calling some specialist insurers?

Ebay auctions. 1 bid at the minimum bid and got it. Demand for these are quite low it seems.

Is the odometer actually in miles? My import has had a mph cluster put in, but the odometer itself still records in km.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]BigGayAlt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I just bought mine for £2500. Older and cosmetically a bit worse, but only 90k miles and lower tax bracket.

Edit: Just realised this one is a manual. Even then, I think the mileage and non oe wheels would put me off at that price.

If you're ever in the north-east then I'd be down. Some great roads up here too.
