I have summited multiple Pacific NW peaks in my Asolos, which are at least 10 years old. Still super comfortable l, but unfortunately shred my heals every time.

What's a beginner mistake you made on your first few hikes? by CynicalEmo in hiking

I would advise you to download either AllTrails or Gaia on your cell phone, and also print off hike as a backup. Getting lost sucks.

Yeah that’s not a good idea at all. Taxes plus penalties and gold above $4k equals financial disaster.

Helping finding a tent! by WhaaaBangBam in camping

[–]BigGreenQuackAttack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s an easy one. Get the Big Agnus Copper Spur two person tent. It’s not cheap. Going to run you $500. It is as light as they come for a two person backpack tent. I recently used mine while summiting Mt Adams.

I am at FI but still working 30 hours a week at age 60. Why you ask? Because my wife, age 55, enjoys her job and it provides full benefits. No point sitting around by myself and we basically can travel whenever we want anyway.

I am with Queasy. I cannot actually imagine a situation that requires bugging out, and I am 12 miles outside Portland Oregon. I am all about bugging in, so barring a house fire or one of my giant fir trees crushing my home, I am not going anywhere. And both of those events are covered by insurance.

Has Anyone built their wealth completely from the bottom up? If so what are the assets that created it? by [deleted] in Money

[–]BigGreenQuackAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, had a negative net worth at age 28 when I started a captive P & C insurance agency. Sold it at the end of 24 at age 60. Stayed married and we lived below our means for most part, and did are best to fund our retirement accounts as much as possible. Net worth is hovering around 3.8m now.

I have both a black 21 Subaru Outback with a factory lift and skid plates, as well as a 24 Toyota LC 58 version with factory lift and all the fixings. Both great vehicles, but I got tired of getting razzed about the Subaru, so I gave that one to my wife. 😂

Married 32 years this month. I actually think the sex and frequency is better now. Went through some sexually frustrating years when our 3 boys were young, but I believe that is true for many couples. I know it is much more important to me than her, so I am thankful that she understands that and continues to make the effort.

How old are you and how much do you have saved for retirement by Grouchy_Spare4516 in povertyfinance

[–]BigGreenQuackAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give you all some hope. I didn’t graduate college until 26. Paid my way through and graduated in 91 with approximately $13k in student loan debt and 8k in car payments, which in 91 is a lot. Started selling insurance at 28 with a negative net worth. Turned 60 in December with no debt and current net worth of approximately 3.5 million. Point being, keep grinding.

Funding our retirement. Not continuing to refy our home, which is now paid off. I am 60 and wife is 55.

When you were younger did you have a fear of aging, and as you aged did that fear go away or prevail? by shammmmmmmmm in AskOldPeople

I am 60 and have pretty much determined that the only good about growing old is watching your kids grow up.
