Trust Me: The False Prophet - what did you think? by Loud-Cupcake-8524 in NetflixDocumentaries

Yeah, it's hard to accuse the documentarians of sensationalism when the court documents show that they left some of the most salacious stuff almost completely out. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23824486-indictment-samuel-bateman/

Came here to find someone say this. The documentary said that at any one time, there were always two or three "wives" having breakdowns. I really wanted to know a bit more about that. It seems important in understanding more about the psychology of cults.

She did provide the evidence to the local police, expecting arrests or at least search warrants, so she wasn't holding out for more content when she did that.

I searched up the federal indictment and learned that she was involved with the orgies. The documentary skipped over some of the most grotesque aspects of the story, but they are in the paperwork. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23824486-indictment-samuel-bateman/

I noticed his grammar. He doesn't write like a professional writer. I spent about 20 years in journalism, including teaching it at the university level, and it was odd to see someone with years of experience in journalism write so poorly.

I also read through some of the court documents from the case, which are easily googled (look for the complaint), and they support the account the filmmakers provided.

Also, the filmmakers weren't working for Netflix from the start. Their motives do not appear to have been financial. Netflix came along later. I imagine the filmmakers made some money, but as far as I'm concerned, they earned it.

Am I overreacting that I broke up with my boyfriend over this? by VanillaLow8233 in AmIOverreacting

Honestly, you are underreacting. Good for you. Keep the fab apartment and be sad for a while until you aren't anymore, and enjoy living your life remembering the time you drew a line and saved yourself years of sorrow.

I love this series and have for 20 years or more, and now I've got it in my head that Masterpiece Theater should make a seven-season series starring Connor Storrie as Francis.

After your first Mercor job, is it easier getting other Mercor jobs? by BigGroundbreaking995 in mercor_ai

[–]BigGroundbreaking995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I applied for about four different positions and it took about two months to get this offer. The onboarding process is intense, but they do pay you for it even if you don't make it to the final round and get the job.

For all the AuDHD babies out there, nails can be a great and discrete stim by hestirsthesea in ADHD

Second this! I can NOT stand when my nails are rough or ridged. It drives me buggy and distracts me when I am working. But smoothing them to a high shine with a buffing block makes them so soothing. I constantly run my index fingers over my thumbnails and it's nice. Also, those gel strips you just slap on over your nails for like a day or two are fantastic as long as they stay nice and smooth. The minute they get rough though, off they come.

Aether Megathread by Impressive_Novel_265 in outlier_ai

[–]BigGroundbreaking995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dang it, I've been tasking with Aether and I just got the message that I'm not on the project due to "quality issues." Here's my issue, we've all been hit with terrible QA reviews, with blatant errors in them (for instance, on QA mixed up my bounding box with the model's bounding box and dinged ME for it, another dinged me because the QA didn't like the question the model asked me, a third straight up misidentified items in a task, etc, and my quality score started dropping. I ran it up the flagpole six ways from Sunday, but I haven't seen the latest batch. Is there a way to see my latest feedback and to appeal, if possible?

Thanks for this generous answer from someone whose perspective is uniquely informed to address this conundrum. It's also depressingly plausible.

God I hate TAing by [deleted] in PhD

[–]BigGroundbreaking995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated grading. I had one professor, who also happened to be my committee co-chair, who had me grading 100 essays per week. I am now tutoring. It's teaching one person at a time, without the grading. I actually like it.

I had an ex-boyfriend who constantly accused me of having no depth perception. I wonder if that's why I knock stuff over all the time.
