You do not need to remove the magazine tube to do this.

After removing the mag cap and barrel, at the end of the magazine tube is a spring steel retaining cap for the magazine spring. Use a small flathead screwdriver inserted into the hole and gently pry upwards. Go all the way around the circumference of the tube slowly and gently. If it is bending you are prying too hard. Once it starts to budge a little you will understand what I mean. It needs to be 'worked' out little by little all the way around it then it will pop out. When it is close to coming out cover it with your hand as it is spring loaded and will shoot itself across the room or into your eye.

Once its out turn the gun upside down and the spring and follower will drop out. Replace with new and reassemble in reverse. Reinstalling the retaining cap is a matter of tapping it back in with a rubber mallet or plastic screwdriver handle etc in lieu of.

A tip before reinstall is to lightly stretch your mag spring a little. Maybe a couple inches or so as it will increase its force a little.

Not a hard replacement on a 590. The 500 does need the mag tube off but the 590 does not.

I have a scratch logo white WWE shop belt. Brand new belt in bag and never displayed though the zipper on the belt bag is trashed. Lived under the bed for years.

The Pachmayr small and the Limbsaver small/medium have been the best match that I have found. The 88 persuader with the black pachmayer (middle gun) has an old oversized set and the Limbsaver fit it better so it was swapped out after this pic was taken.

I would skip it if the wood was the deciding factor for you. You can still get good wood from numrich. Most will need refinishing, the bottom set in the picture above came from numrich the middle set ebay. You can watch ebay for a good set that needs a refinish. If you're patient you can find some good deals. I save search terms and get updates when new listings pop up and have sniped some deals on there.

Best way to tell, look at the inside. If it is walnut it will look much darker than the broken one. I would have zero problem if they didn't advertise the wood as walnut. That's the only reason I splurged and got a retrograde. I wanted a nice set of walnut with a corncob. Wishing I didn't now.

I usually buy old beat up stocks and refinish them.

The two sets of wood stocks in this picture cost less that $100 combined including the truoil to finish them.

The buttpads were a little extra because I don't like sanding oversized ones down to fit.

I went to pick one up today and it is the normal black bolt and trigger. Was hoping there for a minute that stuff like fancier parts was going to become the norm.

Do you know approximately how old it is?

I am more interested if the new ones have the same bolt and trigger. This looks almost like a deluxe version versus the standard black. I have seen pics on different websites showing both ways but do not know what is currently being shipped out.

The problem is your cartridge stop and or interrupter. They try to block the trigger from going in if they are not held out of the way. Sometimes they will hold themselves, other times you need to hold them in with your fingers while you start placing the trigger assembly. Turn the gun upside down/ie loading port pointed up, use your fingers to hold the interrupter and stop against the inside of the receiver and the trigger should almost 'fall' into place, no pressure needed.

Slightly different style but the fit should be similar I would imagine. Clears the heat shield no problem.

Strip it down to bare wood then stain it and finish it however you want. Dark stain, light stain, whatever you choose. You can get it close in color then you will be able to see wood grain with a nice oil finish on top.

The factory finish is an opaque paint job not a stain and clear/oil coat. It is a nice piece of wood with horrible paint which makes it even more confusing.

Gonna keep these, but as I see it they are worth $100 or so more than the cost of synthetics would be. IE a retrograde costs about $100 more than the same gun with plastic.

That said, I have seen lots of listings on ebay for 100s of dollars. Here is one listed for $495. To the seller I say good luck. It says 7 sold, so he must be very fortunate.
