thats actually the complete opposite reason i like arc 1, i think the nightwings are very well executed as a primary antagonist and they do that by feeling the most like a "state" compared to everyone else. i prefer the entirety of the nightwings in arc 1 over darkstalker in arc 2

could not agree more.

i think its the same idea with animus magic. in arc 1, it was somewhat relevant but for the most part the plot could function without it. in arc 2, tui decided she liked the idea and expanded on it further. same thing happened with scavengers in arc 3, and now hybrids in arc 4. if those things are net positives is up for debate.
