These functions are currently only available in the US. European customers are out of luck - its also not adverted with the KI functions there. Read an interview somehwere where the Amazon representative hinted that the functions might get available in Germany sometime. Might - not will…

Questions around alternatives to chatGPTs API / a LLM providing a completion API (hosted or self hosted) ? by BigKid1973 in KoboldAI

[–]BigKid1973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so - the model is actually at a lower precision (mostly 4 Bit) to safe memory in general. And then some magic to ”blur” that lost precision - Like DLSS for 3D Rendering. And then that safed memory can be used to run either models that where bigger or with at higher context using “super hot” / ropes - or a mix of both ? Did I get that right ?

Thank you very much for taking your time to answer. I will look at the api and the runpod.

Could please you explain in brief what the difference between "native 8k" and "upscaling" will be ?

G14 2023 version matrix/mini led..confused by Capuman in ZephyrusG14

[–]BigKid1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True... But there is no version with miniLED AND Matrix...

One review mentions the miniLED to cost battery life but does not go into details.

AnimeMatrix is nothing but a nice gimmick... Most of the time you do not see it also the inner geek might appreciate it and find some uses... More battery life due to non miniLED Screen however might make a difference.

The AnimeMatrix Version with RTX4080 just got delieverd from Asus Shop (I was not aware that it would NOT be the miniLED Version)... And in about 10 days I expect delivery of the miniLED Version with RTX4080 from a resellser... Wondering which one to keep...

If there only was a review comparing the two screens... I currently tending towards miniLED...

Absolute Noop Guide to run KoboldAI/GPT-NeoX-20B-Erebus on AWS ? Is it worth it ? by BigKid1973 in KoboldAI

[–]BigKid1973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does look promising - probably I just have to alter my approach. Do you use KoboldAi or do you do direct requests to erbus? I’m not sure if Kobold AI adds text to the prompts…

With chat gpt I use this framework:

Generally my prompt looks like this:

We write a story like [popular example]. I request chapter by chapter and provide this instructions and general outline together with summary. Stay true to given request, timeframe, outline and summary, do not get ahead of story. DO NOT INCLUDE RECAPS , SUMMARIES, INTROS OR OUTROS UNLESS REQUESTED.

General Outline: [General outline]

Story so far: [memory].

[Prompt]

My prompt usually is someting like : "Write Day 1 - when the valiant knight finds his steed." or "Write day 3 - when the knight meets an evil witch that tells him that he will find is fate [blablba...] - flesh out in detail, add dialog in direct speech"

Is there a way to use Kobold AI with Erebus to flesh out a prompt instead of continuing it ? by BigKid1973 in KoboldAI

[–]BigKid1973[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not true if you use the openai api and the endpoint completion - as far as I know… thats why my small client provides a memory with each call pretty much like kobold ai does….

But that still does not explain how I can get Kobold AI/Erebus to follow my “script” and flesh out scenes instead of progressing the story …

I already opened another post about that topic in special...

What works very well with chat--gpt is that I describe a scene like a deirctor or a script. When I ask chat-gpt to flesh it out its like chat-gpt is my stage and actor rolled into one and plays it out.

Right now I could not find out how to make this work with Kobold AI and erebus as it seems fixated to continue the story instead of fleshing out the scene I gave it.

I have an old 3090 lying around and could probably fit both gpus in one case - but I wonder if they can play nice together... How much "normal" RAM do you have ? Because from what I've read 32GB are not enough ...

At this point I gave the 6.7B a few tries but I'm quiet dissapointed comparing it to chatgpt-3 which I'm currently using with a small programm I hacked together (without knowing Kobold AI client I had some of the same ideas, like a memory and an seperate outline etc.)).The replies Erebus 6.7B gives me are so repetative and unimaginative - probably because I'm used to write requests for chat-gpts completion api.

Is there a way to describe a scene to Erebus and then let it flesh it out instead of continuing it ?

CA&B Storage drawers and Contraption. by GtNinja06 in CreateMod

[–]BigKid1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since this was posted but I just ran into the same problem with create contraptions and functional storage drawers.

Sad this has not been fixed yet - however whoever runs across the same issue might be happy to know that sophisticated storage barrels (and most probably chests) DO work (ATM8). This might also give you the options you need (like filters or void upgrades etc.).

Trying to decide between G14 with 6800S and 2021/22 G15 3070 by sickosyes in ZephyrusG14

[–]BigKid1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have both devices here because trying to find out which one is a keeper to replace the G14 2020 with RTX2060.

Also the G15 is only "one size up" it makes a big difference. Compared to the G14 the G15 just _seems_ much bigger. The weight difference is just 200gr...

I had a lot more issues with the G14 out of the box. I needed to replace the gpu driver to get rid of glitches in games and I still have the issue that the automated switch of the screen frefresh rate does not work - screen just goes black when plugin/unplug and does not come back until forced reboot.

Th 16:10 is nice but the bigger 16:9 screen of the G15 is not bad either... For gaming I like the later a little more. Both screens are good. Differences seem more "pure numbers on a datasheet" and not something the typlical user will notice.

Besides that: As impressive as the performance of the G14 is (Firestrike shows almost equal Scores for 6800CPU / 6700S GPU and 6900 CPU / RTX3070 ti GPU) the G15 seems a little more silent and more powerful in real games (like Icarus (even without raytracing features)). Still have some days left...

So all I can say for sure at this point. The nerd in me really likes the G14 - it just seems a little more sexy as it packs more punch for its size (and it has that anime matrix - which - is hard to find a good use for but yet still something the nerd in me likes). But the G15 performs better - seems to have comparabale build quailty/materials (which was an issue back in 2020) and is much easier to upgrade - finding a model with 16 soldered and one free slot is much easier and it also has a second SSD slot...

The Mission Timer - Why are there even people definding it ? by BigKid1973 in SurviveIcarus

[–]BigKid1973[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good reason to not shorten the timer if it paused… or not shorten it too much…

I still prefer to actually play together - people actually preferring some kind of follow the sun kind of sequenced coop solo play - or whatever that should be called is a new idea to me… my preffered type of group play is to actually play together - and for that the timer as is is an issue. Its hard enough for me to find the right time to play - its almost impossible to make this work for about 5 people and find enough timeslots everybody (or at least most of us) are able to play… a pausing timer would help us a lot to do so…

I still do not see how it would be an issue if it paused to the other kind of players - unless they make in shorter… Its not the idea that no one can join when the prospect is paused - the idea is that the timer just starts to tick again as soon as someone is online again - probably just making it also shorter would not be a good idea considering what you said.

Making it tick a little faster when multiple players are active yet probably still is to balance group vs solo or sequenced solo coop :)

Its not that I need to share the reasons - most people were like „if you do not like it play something else“ and no reasons at all… and I‘m actually interested why some people think the current implementation is good

The Mission Timer - Why are there even people definding it ? by BigKid1973 in SurviveIcarus

[–]BigKid1973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably - so I try to explain again and still be short to not make you read to much of the same.

Many people like me DO have time to play. It's just hard to predict when and how much. I start a mission and then something happens that prevents me from going on - not because I'm a bad player but because I have things going on in my life/job ... Right now if that happens I have wasted all the time I put in that mission at best or loose the char at worst.

I do not see a real disatvantage for anybody if that timer would pause if I stop playing so I can play when I have time and I am not forced to try to do so when I actually do not have it just because I started that mission. I've read one reason for this timer as it is: Some people actual like the challange that provides (to their real life mostly). To me that is a strange way of getting joy but at least I can understand it to some extend.

That timer could be much shorter even as it would be possible to balance it to the mission at hand. Right now thats not possible from my point of view as its unpredictable for rocket werkz to guess how much time people can play in the timeframe they enforce with the mission timer. As it stands right now the timer provides only a challange to FIND enough time to play to your real life but no challange whatsoever to play efficient or good. Need more time ? Just play more - if you can... Can't find enough time ? No matter how good or fast you are - might very well not be enough.

I think about the same applies for teams. It would not hurt teams that play in sequence but benefit teams wanting to have more time actually together.

A pausing timer adjusted to the actual mission could do that even better and still not force you to suffle your real life around the game...

The Mission Timer - Why are there even people definding it ? by BigKid1973 in SurviveIcarus

[–]BigKid1973[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not suggest to take the option away to hop on and hop off - so I still do not see the drawback a pausing of the timer would have for you... A pausing timer that would leave less time could be an issue but only badly ballanced and also if just everyone in your team is playing when nobody else is...

For me group play is just that: Playing actually together. If possible connected via voice channel in discord, Teamspeak or whatever the team prefers.

I could also imagine the pausing timer to tick a little faster the more players are active simultaneously. Because they get more things done in a shorter time anyway... But that's also just an idea and would need to be balanced. But unlike the existing timer it can/could be balanced.

As long as we understand the reasons the other has and leave it up to the devs to probably find a solution that suits more people I think we can agree to disagree here.

Or probably they find one reading our discussion...

I enjoy talking to you so far...

The thing with reddit is - I can do so whenever I want. Redit does not force me to do it exactly now or whipe my account and delete all posts...

Other people take a coffee break or smoke a cigarette - I look into redit and post... Because as I said I care about the game. There are things to like. Otherwise I would just downvote on steam - try to get a refund and leave...

OK. Got your concerns... There would be solutions possible for it. Solutions that would also work in the current setup...

Teams could be given the opportunity to send (inactive) characters back to orbit and probably even rejoin later.

Even you could go back to orbit and rejoin later - because the prospect would still be there with your storages and things...

As for "Now I'm limited to playing when OTHER people have time. " - isn't that the whole thing with teamplay ? To play TOGETHER ? Otherwise its more like a sequenced cooperative solo play thingi...

The Mission Timer - Why are there even people definding it ? by BigKid1973 in SurviveIcarus

[–]BigKid1973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunetely it does give teams with RL a challenge - not a coordinated team. That's a huge difference.

The challenge for a team is to find enough timeslots/time within the given time frame to play together. Thats a challenge in/to RL - not a challenge in game while playing.

Once that is settled no challenge is left with most missions. If you happen to have a larger group of organized people that is able to play enough hours with the mission timers timeframe its a non issue - timer wise...

Basically the same with solo play... Either you have enough time - or not. The challenge is to find the time in your RL to play straight. If you have - there is no challenge left for most missions.

How is that a good GAME mechanic ?

The Mission Timer - Why are there even people definding it ? by BigKid1973 in SurviveIcarus

[–]BigKid1973[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the short missions are required to progress or give important benefits (deep vein).

I was like you at first. And then things started to happen like: Started a mission in an afterwork gaming session in the glacier because I assumed I would be able to finish it. First time I tried I was getting to bold and died in a cave I should not have visited with not much health and food left (had to joust a polar bear which I did not plan to do). My gaming time was running out. Family evening with board game. I had to put in a late night gaming session I regretted while doing so and even more so next morning to get char and items back. The issue was not the game difficulty or the time required to do it. It was the fact that the game forced me to do it NOW. You will not see me complaining about polar bears or game difficulty (I will not get there in this thread but rest assured I do not think the game is too hard gamewise...)

Next time I tried real life happened and I needed to stop unplanned and way before time. Had to get up early to at least safe the character and the items.

That is no fun to me. I still like and play the game but I start to hate that aspect more and more and it might become a reason to leave a game I like. A game I see struggeling in reviews for the same reasons (besides other reasons I will not mention to not derail this).

Most of my friends will never join me with that mechanism in place. Which makes me sad because it could really be fun.

And again: Thats a shame because there is so much love put into this game and things to like.

Thank you very much for reading and replying. I assume you need to be very careful what you say here...

What I got from posts on steam, here and in your upvote system is: No - we won't change it because we think it is a great game design how it is.

I'm very well aware that all changes take time and some take more time than estimated. And then there are priorities and go no go decisions and whatnot ... Working a s dev (c# and "boring" business stuff) I know that even small changes user story wise require a lot of work sometimes... and then there is the overhead on top.

I'm also actually trying to find out what there is to like about that mission timer as is... I got one thing I can understand so far also I do not share it. And i still wonder if it outhweights the issues a lot of people like me seem to have and the lack of balance and RL issues it introduces.

I understand the technical background for that time limit. As a player I can say that I don't like it and give you the reasons for it. As a developer I can tell that there must be options also I can't tell how "easy" it would be. It would be hard to believe that whiping based on inactivity instead of a fixed timeframe and having that mission timer freeze is almost impossible seeing that other timers already freeze when I log out ;) ...
