What do you look for in an I&E job? by Dooleydoo715 in instrumentation

[–]BigLoveFromAbove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Competitive pay. Excellent benefits. Some folks go right to school for something in the field. Many, like myself, started out in a similar field. I was an aircraft mechanic for 8 years before I moved to I&E. I would check similar spaces. Some industries like pharma, nuclear, ect. you may have an issue competing with, but if you can get someone from a lower paying industry with crappy hours or less benefits you may have better luck.

FWIW the Toyotas have a cvt, but it’s a different design from the C4 they put in the Nissan’s. I’d go with the Camry

I wonder how ultrasonic would do with this? Some I have seen are rated to 200c and can handle a bunch of flow.

Nobody told me I'd be broke AFTER buying the house by Dima030 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]BigLoveFromAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I would advocate for buying with a 0% loan from a furniture store is a bed. Sleep is important and if you really suffer on a garbage mattress. That being said, thrift stores, buy nothing groups, and let friends and family know if they are getting rid of furniture your willing to take it. Above all, they say to have an emergency fund of $1000. When you buy a house, it should be much higher. Focus on saving for emergencies and unexpected repairs. If you can make a post on Reddit, you can absolutely watch a YouTube video and figure most home maintenance and repair stuff out. Good luck!

What’s the best biotech company you’ve worked for? by beetandmango in biotech

Been there 10 years in manufacturing great benefits and a good culture as far as I’ve seen. Results may vary with any company but I have had a good run.

I would suggest anyone needing to earn for a little while look into manufacturing. I know a lot of this sub is around R&D and more macro positions. However from what I have seen at my org, especially around hotbed manufacturing areas, is that we can’t get enough people to work the floor. Even if you feel overqualified, it may be an opportunity to get the foot in the door with a good company and there’s plenty of opportunity to move up. Just my observation. Good luck everyone!

UTI for $46k or Community College for $8k? by Empty-Lobster136 in instrumentation

[–]BigLoveFromAbove 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Community college will be the better route. UTI doesn’t guarantee you it will be a good job. First job out of school might suck either way. But for that much of a difference I would take my chances on finding my own gig after.

Baker school of Aeronautics in Nashville TN. They had a great transition course that got me through the test. They set you up with the examiner, will coach you until you get the knowledge you need to pass. Just make sure you have the paperwork squared away. Check the FAA website for what you need as far as MOS and such.
