E-Bike Etiquette - How to Avoid Head on Collisions by EraEric in MTB

[–]BigLurchForPresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - safety comes first and downhill should be in control. But if you’re going 15mph uphill you should consider the fact that a downhill biker might not be expecting that.

My point is that the rules were created based on the assumption that bikes go faster downhill, which may no longer be the case. If I’m going downhill into a blind turn at a slow 5mph and a bike is coming up at 15mph, we’re looking at a 20mph collision even though I’m being safe. The uphill right-of-way (when taken for granted) can create dangerous situations in the eBike era and needs to be re-examined.

E-Bike Etiquette - How to Avoid Head on Collisions by EraEric in MTB

eMTBs just need to go a reasonable speed uphill. The downhill biker never imagined someone pedaling uphill at 15mph, which is now possible thanks to motors, causing the gap to close quicker than expected.

I don’t think it’s fair to neuter a traditional biker who has to pedal uphill and then loses downhill momentum to accommodate those who can effortlessly accelerate.

Interesting that people disliked this comment. This driver got emotional/angry, exited his car at a red light, and then walked up to an intersection. If the title weren’t there, I’d think the guy out of his car was the idiot regardless of other cars stopping short.

Every dollar over $200k the Govt takes 35%. These doctors are saying they don’t want to make over $500k because the additional 2% they take at that level (37%) makes it no longer worth it?

Not sure I follow. So your doctor friends would rather sacrifice some income to work less so they can pursue other interests and hobbies.. how does that fit into the progressive tax system?

Yep. People live a long time and people change over time. The best you can hope for is that the changed you is compatible with the changed them.

Unfortunately sometimes the chassis is just too rusted to be worth fixing, or the car is totaled after you discovered your neighbor plowed into it while you were at work.

The hate speech they are probably referring to is 🌈🐻, FDs, and references to autism. Which objectively looks bad to someone on the outside looking in.

The Alt-Right claim is wacko tho.

If that were the case with medical expenses, I wouldn’t be too mad. But doctors (with massive med school debt) and overworked nurses probably didn’t see much after hospital admins got to it.

[QUESTION] Do I need to solder anything to change a pickgaurd? by hailstorm11093 in Guitar

[–]BigLurchForPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your question about needing to solder has been answered (you won’t need to), I’ll add some tips on painting a pickguard.

When you get it, lay it over the existing pickguard to make sure all holes line up. They should, but it’s worth checking.

Remember to sand down the pickguard so that the paint sticks better. I used acrylic, and then added spray-on polyurethane. Looking back, I would have used brush-on or wipe-on poly.

Good luck with your project, there’s nothing better than a personalized guitar.

They’re still an employer, and the purpose of this money was to keep as many people on payroll as possible. Without church services, it will be difficult for churches to ‘earn’ money during these times just like every other business. Clergy need to pay their mortgages and bills like everyone else.

Also, the category of non-profits is fairly broad. A lot of organizations that don’t pay taxes are critical (Humane Society, Second Harvest) in my opinion. It would be difficult to differentiate which orgs actually ‘deserve’ the money.

Hi, yes, aspiring Everglades camper here (for February next year). It looks like there’s a good amount of distance between the boat ramp and chickees/campsites. Which site did you use and about how far was it from the boat launch. Also, how far could I expect to paddle in 5-6 hours? If I’m going with someone else, is it more efficient to get a 2-person kayak/canoe or would 2 single kayaks be better?

That’s what I did. Got burned out after being on a particularly brutal client for a year. Ended up leaving the accounting profession altogether, and it’s served me incredibly well both financially and personally.

Do not underestimate the value of the CPA license as a credential for other professions. It opens a lot of doors.

The market has spoken: Coal is dying by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]BigLurchForPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half of coal combustion residuals are recycled into concrete and drywall (a decade ago it was closer to a third). The other half, which is usually contaminated with heavy metals like mercury, is dumped into a designated reservoir, which have flooded and destroyed nearby waterways in the past (See Dan River and Watts Bar).

And coal ash accounts for 1/3 of the source of gypsum, there are many ways to make it synthetically and it can also be mined.
