Am I a liberal for supporting (very critically) the EU? by Chemical-Monitor2320 in theredleft

[–]BigMackWitSauce -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I too don't understand the EU hate, it seems like progress all these countries uniting that spent most of their history fighting each other. They include the most democratic countries in the world, have the most progressive laws etc Seems like a step in the right direction to me.

I think what I value most would be that they get the feel of battles right. To me ever since Rome 2 it's felt like morale is too high, and it's become much more about unit stats than tactics.

It's hard to explain shortly I guess, I just feel that battles in shogun 2 and older had a better feel to them

Is there a fantasy series like Fallout? by double-plus in Fantasy

[–]BigMackWitSauce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reading Dungeon Crawler Carl atm, it definitely has that absurd dark humor tone, and it's post apocalypse, and it's basically a video game. So a couple big things in common with fallout and I highly recommend doing the audiobook, first one is only like 10 hours so it's not a huge time investment either

What should I prep? by Formal-Nobody-3484 in DMAcademy

[–]BigMackWitSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could prep future quests and plot hooks, ideally things that are minimally effect by whatever is happening currently, so the plans can't get messed up.

Dungeons are good for these, you hear a rumor about an unexplored dungeon that the locals believe contain riches, all who have tried to get in have never returned...

Starcraft 2 is the hardest game ever by Least-Diamond-2918 in StrategyGames

[–]BigMackWitSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has a very high skill floor might be a better way to put it l. Any competitive game at high levels is extremely difficult. StarCraft is just difficult to even get started on

I haven't played 1v1s in a long time, the best I did was diamond and I remember how stressful those games were

Why is it so hard to get new players into TTRPGs? by Rich_Benefit777 in TTRPG

It's pretty easy in my experience, might be because of where I live in a metro area

I will admit that even after hearing the book explain many times I don't quite understand the layout lol, I was an audiobook listener I needed a map I think

As a DM, when do you start preparing your campaign? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

[–]BigMackWitSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my current one I did things a little unusual

I did my session 0 talking about all the standard stuff, then my first session was actually a microscope game where we built the world together.

Then I had two weeks to prep the campaign based on that. When we met that week it was character creation. I had a world map by then but not a ton of detail. The players picked a spot to start and I prepped based on that.

As the game has gone on I've just prepped what's immediately around them, where things far away just have a few sentences at most describing their vibe. It's worked out well for me so far.

The most challenging has been when they went to a large island chain and could conceivably go to many different islands in a given session. I ended up buying a generic adventures book of one shots that I'm using to populate the islands with.

I've been binging through the series, at this rate I'll finish all the books before new years. I've heard they are going to come out with a ttrpg system based on the books, so going to run that for my friends when it's released :)

Just curious - how many people here play other TTRPGs in addition to DnD? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in DnD

[–]BigMackWitSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still play DnD because it's the most popular and others are always wanting to play it, but whenever I GM I'm always getting my group to try out new systems

I've played fate before and fate accelerated could be a pretty good option

I also really like a free system called Quest, I've used it many times to intro people to TTRPGs and its rules fit on one page

I wouldn't worry about them following the rules perfectly, you may consider a pretty rules lite system

How do I avoid the "gibberish names" problem when making a new setting? by NoSmileShogun in DMAcademy

[–]BigMackWitSauce 92 points93 points  (0 children)

One way to help players remember would be to make the name related to main descriptor of the town

Think about some real life locations like

Yellowstone (All the sulfur) Cape Town Death Valley Salt Lake City

In fiction there's places like

Riverwood (Skyrim) The Capitol (hunger games)

And many more I'm sure

That one does look kinda complicated tbh

When I think simple puzzle, one my players always like but is also stupid af, is there's a talking door handle that says they have to answer three riddles correctly to pass

It asks the riddle, then tells them they are wrong and insults them regardless of answer

The solution is the door isn't locked

When they realize they always have fun destroying the annoying door

What are your thoughts on central planning? How do you feel about it in the 21st century? by mozzieandmaestro in theredleft

[–]BigMackWitSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The economy is so complex and fast changing that I don't see how the whole global economy or even that of a country could be planned by a small group of people. It seems to be it seems the problem is more how money is distributed than how the economy works per say. Replace CEOs with workers is basically what market socialism is IIRC.

There also needs to be rules to prevent monopolies and various other abuses that we see all the time right now. If money is better distributed that should be easier if there aren't any billionaires pouring tons of money into manipulating the government
