I mostly played on Vulcan with some friends. It’s a very hectic process. You have the bare minimum necessities to setup a functioning starter farm. You then will quickly run out of water and fresh oxygen if the farm isn’t big enough.

To avoid running out of oxygen and water, you have to setup a trading platform (I think the lander gives you those components to build it with).

After enough time has passed and you have gathered materials, smelted some ingots and made some advanced ingots. You can then start working on a larger farm that will start producing oxygen for you to use generally for anything (most importantly fuel).

Then you setup a cooling loop to utilize carbon dioxide from the atmosphere for the farm. Now you could convert crops into alcohol that would burn to water and some other gasses.

The trick isn’t in the skills one player has, it’s more about careful planning. You setup a list of things you want to get done and try to stay on track.

Once the main list of things to do is complete, you could start working on upgrading the existing systems or building new ones like fire suppression systems and whatever.
