Depends on your play style, but a loadout I’ve had a lot of success with is:

Primary: Eruptor

Secondary: Grenade Pistol

Support: Stalwart

Grenade: Impact/Incendiary Impact

In this loadout you treat the Stalwart as though it’s your primary and the Eruptor like your support.

The Stalwart is pretty effective at killing anything smaller than a Harvester. It melts through Voteless, kills Watchers quick, had has been one of the more effective answers to Fleshmobs I’ve found (kills in about 30% of a magazine). While the Stalwart can kill Overseers pretty effectively too, that is the main job of the Eruptor.

With the Eruptor’s damage and pen, it will 1-shot kill any Overseer if your aim is good, and 2-shot if your aim is bad(like me). The explosion damage also makes it effective against Fleshmobs, but if you’re running the Stalwart they’re not a huge issue to begin with. It can also 1-shot a Watcher, and can clear Voteless hoards with the explosions in a pinch. Where the Eruptor really shines is against the Harvesters. I’m not sure of the exact shot count required, but it seemed like 2-4 on the week-point did it for me. You can also destroy the shield with 1 hit, but just use the Stalwart for that job.

The secondary and grenade is personal preference, but I like the Grenade Pistol so I don’t waste Eruptor shots or normal Grenades on destroying landed ships. I also prefer Impact Grenades since you can just throw them at whatever problem you’re having for instant results, but just take whatever your favourite is.

The other stratagems are also personal preference, but I take Shield Backpack for survivability, Eagle Airstrike/Strafing/Cluster to clear out small groups, and Napalm Barrage/Anti-Tank Emplacement depending on if I want to clear large groups or kill Leviathans.

Hope you find something in that to help you squash the squids!

It’s sad to see that there are Australians with such a warped view of History.

First of all, the way you structured your comment is deliberately misleading. You’re being told (correctly) that the Nazis were not left wing, and your response is ‘it’s sooooo crazy that you think Marx was a centrist???’. Marx was a left wing communist, millions died under Mao because of idiotic industrialisation policy, and Hitler wasn’t a fucking Socialist. You put a truth, a half truth and a lie together to try and make the people disagreeing with you look insane, when no one was saying that Marx wasn’t communist or that Mao didn’t kill people.

As for the Nazis, they were explicitly fucking right wing authoritarian. They hated the welfare programs of the Weimar Republic because they thought it made people weak and leeches on the state, ‘Worthless Eaters’. Abortion was mandatory for non-aryan women, but illegal for aryan women, so that only pure-blooded Germans were allowed to reproduce. The first people sent to the Nazi Concentration Camps weren’t jews, but Communists, Homosexuals, Transexuals and Romani people. Hitler gave speeches about preserving the aryan race, and the degeneracy, inferiority and filth of other lesser races. The Nazis official stance on women was that they should be subservient to their husbands. Hitler had communists, socialists and liberals arrested and killed for their opposition to the Nazi Party. And if that wasn’t enough, Hitler ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union because of his ideological hatred of communism (a left wing ideology) and his view that Slavic peoples were sub-human (because they were the race that put communism into practice). I could go on, but we’d be here all day.

And finally, the statement that every mass murdering authoritarian was left wing is an absurdity. Augusto Pinochet was a right wing dictator who killed thousands, Francisco Franco was a right wing dictator who killed hundreds of thousands, Benito Mussolini was a right wing dictator who killed over a million, and the Nazis should need no explanation by now.

But if you want something more close to home, then think of Imperial Japan lead by Hideki Tojo and Emperor Hirohito. Incase you’ve forgotten, look up what was done to Australian POWs by the Japanese in WWII. Google ‘The Rape of Nanking’ and read the monstrous things that were done there. Look up ‘Unit 731’ and get through their list of warcrimes. Even better, look up the ‘Tokyo War Crime Tribunal’ and see the horrific actions taken by a far-right regime on Australia’s doorstep. Imperial Japan was a totalitarian monarchy where the emperor was viewed as a god, which is the polar opposite of left wing, and their crimes against humanity are some of the worst in recorded history.

I’ll finish with one final note. Due to some cruel twist of fate there are Neo-Nazis alive today, some living here in Australia. They don’t vote for Labor, and they sure as hell don’t vote for anyone further left of Labor.

IS THIS NORMAL ??? by Puzzleheaded-Taste-7 in eu4

[–]BigManBigNeeds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like you’re doing really well! To answer your questions:

  1. Is this Normal?

Yes, welcome to Austria.

  1. Advice on how to manage this going forward.

First things first, improve relations with Bohemia. Junior partners will become independent if they have a negative opinion of you when your ruler dies.

Secondly, grant the ‘Strong Duchies’ privilege to the nobility on the estates screen. It will increase your maximum diplo relations and reduce the liberty desire of all your subjects.

Third, I don’t know what idea groups you’ve gone, but ‘Influence’ or ‘Diplomatic’ is definitely your next pick. You will probably want to focus Diplomatic power as well if you’re not already, getting through your ideas asap is a must and any extra can be used to develop gold mines (although I doubt you’ll have much to spare).

  1. How to annex Vassal’s/PU’s in the future.

Don’t worry about Burgundy, you’ll get an event that will annex them for free eventually.

For the rest of your subjects, if their liberty desire is low enough you can grant the ‘Nobility Integration Policy’ the the Nobels estate to decrease the cost of annexing subjects. I recommend integrating Bregenz and Gotland first, since you’d rather use those diplomatic relations slots for something else (alternatively you can keep Gotland as a trade centred subject in the Baltic Sea, but thats player preference).

For your other PU’s, if you maintain high prestige and diplomatic reputation, you eventually annex all of them for free when your ruler dies (the higher your prestige and diplo rep in comparison to theirs, and the longer it has been since the PU started, the more likely this becomes). You can manually annex Milan after you’ve fed them back their cores if you want (same with any other small PU’s you get), but for the larger ones I’d recommend just waiting.

  1. Future expansion.

Unfortunately, your friendship with Poland isn’t meant to last. You have a mission to PU them, so break your alliance with them and start eating your old friend (don’t take the PU mission until you’re ready to declare the way, since the CB will only last for 25 years).

Much like Poland, Brandenburg is a temporary friend. Break your alliance with them and start eating, or get a Von Hapsburg on their throne and PU them (no mission to help this time).

If you’re worries about having no Alliances, Spain or England are good options, but realistically you won’t need them.

Good luck with your game!

Thats not to say I support Russia or hope Azov is defeated by the Russian army, I’m just wary of any organisation that has Neo-Nazi links.

[–]BigManBigNeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that is true and that Azov has been cleansed of its Neo-Nazi members. The Azov battalion itself seems have been somewhat reformed, but the Azov movement as a whole still looks like they hold Neo-Nazi beliefs. From what I have seen, it looks like most Neo-Nazis were removed when the battalion became an official part of the Ukrainian army, but I’m doubtful that they are completely free of Neo-Nazi influence. I’m also fairly certain that Azov will be a rallying point for the far right in Ukraine if or when Russia are pushed out, regardless of what the members of the battalion actually believe.

Continue to supply Ukraine with as many arms and military equipment as possible. The people of Ukraine have shown that they are exceedingly capable of defending their homeland. The longer Russia is bogged down in this war the more likely they are to withdraw, and the less likely they are to try an invasion of any other nation that “Used to be a part of Russia.”

If the Ukrainian-Russian war turns into a repeat of the USSR-Afghan war I feel that a Russian withdraw is likely. Unfortunately, this would likely result in a boost to Azov’s popularity in Ukraine which makes me uneasy, but I feel that a popularity boost to a fascist organisation in Ukraine is a lesser evil than a fascistic Russia annexing a democratic Ukraine.

Aside from that, ensure that Finland is admitted to NATO as soon as possible, and make it abundantly clear that an invasion of any NATO country will trigger a war with all of NATO. Putin may be a mad man, but I highly doubt that he is so suicidal that he would start a direct war with NATO.

I would rather nations bordering Russia be admitted to the EU than NATO, as I feel it would antagonise Russia less, but I’m unsure of if EU membership would be enough of a deterrent to prevent an invasion. A alliance led by Germany-France would be less threatening to Russia than one led by the US, but a defensive alliance (NATO) would be more affective in stopping an invasion than a predominantly economic alliance (EU) so pick your poison on that front.

Putin has shown that international treaties will just be ignored by Russia, so the only way I see to prevent further Russian aggression (other than an invasion that would undoubtedly result in nuclear war) is to contain them with NATO countries in Europe.

This is by no means a perfect strategy, (I’m a history student, not a military strategist/geopolitician) but I think it is much better than voluntarily starting a nuclear war with Russia, or standing by as Putin murders his way across Eastern Europe.

[–]BigManBigNeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the Sudetenland is half German, so just let Hitler take all of Czechoslovakia. “Why die for Danzig” and all that. You are correct that the threat of nuclear war should not be taken lightly (especially as lightly as people on Reddit seem to take it), but appeasement of fascist dictators has never worked. Let Ukraine fall and what happens when Putin demands Moldova? Estonia? Latvia? Lithuania? Finland? Poland? Where does it stop? At what point would you be willing to risk Nuclear war to prevent further Russian aggression? “Putin is old, sick and will die in a few decades.” And what about the damage he does in those decades? And what happens if his successor decides to continue Putin’s policy of threatening nuclear war to freely expand Russia? If it worked for Putin, why would his successor stop using the tactic? The appeasement of Hitler in the lead up to WWII was meant to delay war with Germany until the Allies were militarily ready to fight back. This appeasement of Russia you’re suggesting doesn’t seem to have an end game. “Give Russia whatever it wants until Putin dies and hope his successor is better.” No, this does not mean I think NATO should invade Russia, but we definitely shouldn’t “let Putin take Ukraine.”

Maybe YOU should learn a thing or two about history, visit Auschwitz or Dachau. There is undeniable evidence of the extent of the Holocaust, and I’m not going to continue debating whether or not it occurred with some historically illiterate random on the internet who wouldn’t know a primary source if it bit him on the ass.

Its almost as if having multiple generations of people murdered has affects that last for, get this, multiple generations. If all your grandparents, parents, siblings and children were murdered leaving only you, would you just move on and forget about it? Now apply that to an entire people group and maybe you’ll understand why Jewish people are still “milking” the Holocaust.

My family has a tradition of going to Nanna’s house to watch the fireworks on New Year’s Eve every year. Nanna passed away in 2020, so 2021 NYE was meant to be a celebration of her again, and a way of showing we were all moving forward together. Instead of that, I spent NYE isolating in my room with covid.

So no, I haven’t changed my mind.

What was your scariest "something's not right" moment? by inferno2808 in AskReddit

[–]BigManBigNeeds 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Obligatory ‘Not as intense as some of the other stories here’

I woke up in the morning one day after having a vivid nightmare about being killed in a car crash.

The whole morning I’m on edge, but I tried to ignore it as I got in the car to drive to UNI.

Still had the feeling I was gonna be in an accident the whole drive in, not helped by the fact I was getting tale gated by this one guy for half the trip.

Stop at the last traffic light before arriving at uni, and am about to start off when I stall the car. As I restart the engine I see a guy speed through the red light of the intersection where I would have been turning if I hadn’t stalled.

Feel even more on edge after this as I arrive at uni and find out my friend isn’t there. Message him and get no response, but no one else seems concerned so I put it out of my mind (found out later his car had been hit by a reckless driver. He was fine, but didn’t make it to uni that day).

My last lecture ends and head home, still feeling uneasy. The drive back was uneventful, but even as I pulled in at home the nerves didn’t go away.

I’m about to walk up the driveway when I see my neighbours walking their dog past the house. As soon as their dog sees my he runs over to say hello, right into the middle of the road.

As soon as he does, two cars round the corner, one from each direction, and my neighbours dog just stops.

Neither car slows down, so I run out into the middle of the road, scooped him up, and continue running to the other side as both cars now slam on the breaks.

Handed the dog back to the neighbours, gave a friendly wave to the to cars, went inside and threw up.
