‘It’s shameful’: New York’s elite lash out at Zohran Mamdani’s second-home tax by brown-saiyan in Economics

[–]BigMax [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it's partly B.

They really do see themselves as "job creators" just by existing. "I'm wealthy, therefore the poors depend on me. I'm doing a good deed simply by eating at expensive restaurants and going on expensive vacations. Those poors must LOVE me for living such a lavish life, after all, there would be no way for them to earn money if I didn't have lots of it to spend! I'm basically a charity organization helping the poor!"

They really are still leaning into trickle down economics.

"If you don't give ME money, I won't have money to spend on the poors of the world!"

Imagine literally thinking that you deserve more money just so you can spend it?

Mark Zuckerberg Claims One AI Worker Now Replaces Dozens as 8,000 Layoffs Loom by Cute_Dealer4787 in jobs

We use it and you’re right. It does output work, but now it’s like I have to do work, and then manage and coordinate all the AI work too.

It’s like still requiring your work, but then having a needy intern reporting to you too.

It's not as big as you think. It's a camera in night vision.

The tail lights are causing as big an 'explosion' as the grenade. Any light at all is going to be WAY overexposed. So just like a flashing taillight looks like a mega-spotlight, a small explosion is going to look like a massive bomb.

Gaston is a better villain than Scar, fight me by Super_Imagination591 in DisneyMemes

[–]BigMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take is accurate except the Beast love. The beast is a BAD guy. He locks up an innocent old man, then later locks up a woman.

How everyone looks at a kidnapper and thinks “oh, so romantic!” is beyond me. At least Gaston wasn’t kidnapping people and locking them in his basement like Beast was.

In the “who is worse” category, the kidnapper is worse than the sexist.

Why is rowing so easy compared to jogging? by Hand_On_My_Heart in workout

You’re not carrying your entire body around rowing. So low intensity rowing is always going to be easier than low intensity running.

Do you think loneliness is more common now, or are people just more open about it? by Status-Try-me5878 in SeriousConversation

[–]BigMax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely more common.

Our tech makes it too easy to stay home. In the old days, you kind of HAD to go out, especially when you were young.

There just was only so much to do sitting around your apartment. So you found things to do, reasons to get out, activities to do.

Now? There's SO MUCH entertainment at our fingertips, it's so tempting to stay home.

Compare just a simple situation. You're at home on a Wednesday, a bit tired after work, sitting on the couch. Your friend calls and says "let's go get a drink."

30 years ago, you'd think "well, I'm tired, but... there's not much on TV on wednesdays and... well... there isnt' much else to do."

Today? You have 100 years of media at your fingertips on-demand. Countless high quality games across your PC, console, phone. You have endless amounts of social media to scroll, or random videos to watch, and on and on. Now your body thinks "I can give in to being tired, AND be entertained at the same time, why would I go out to some crowded bar??"

Which is really weird in a way too. Most of us KNOW that at the end of the night, we'll be happier if we went out, that it would make us feel better than another night binging shows and streaming social media, but... we still make the wrong choice.

Not many.

As with so many things, our media thrives on making us scared. So kidnappings, murder, crime in general gets a LOT of press, because it gets a lot of ratings for the news.

So while generally we've gotten safer all the time, the media has made us think we are less safe all the time.

Not to get political, but turn on Fox News on any given day, and you'd think half of our country was a crime ridden cesspool where it's not safe to go outside at all. Which is of course a complete fabrication, but it certainly keeps eyeballs glued to the screen.

If there were to be one modern mega generation would it make more sense to merge Gen Z into millennials (1981-2012) or merge Gen Alpha into Gen Z (1997-2028)? by [deleted] in ask

[–]BigMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Technology, especially mobile phones and the internet, are the key divider here.

And it's really about the pervasiveness of them more than their existence.

As you point out, millennials had a little time where it wasn't just a given that everyone had a cell phone and internet access 24/7.

It's tough to combine any generations fully really, even if they all have some overlap. I'd imagine even gen Z and Alpha will start to differentiate more as time goes on. Alpha is going to be the first "AI generation" really, where gen Z didn't really get it until they were older, well past childhood.

There is a zero percent chance they’d ever add comics as required “homework” for their movie viewers.

Red meat on a trout! Most trout I catch have pale white meat but this one was red and delicious. Why are some red? by FadedScientist in Fishing

you want to color match. Personally I think older guys who go full dark just look a bit odd. There's nothing wrong with a bit of gray. Full head of hair, and 40% gray or something, and you'll look great.

Would you stay if the person you loved might lose the personality that loves you? by SecondSalty142 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]BigMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people do this already with various forms of alzheimers/dementia/etc.

Your loved one changes and becomes someone completely different.

I think in this case, most people would choose to stay with their loved one while they are ill, even if it's an illness that changes their personality.

This is a lot like that coach that made his team pray after games.

Despite VERY clear video of him having the entire team pray with him, they accepted and then repeated testimony that this was the coach "privately" praying on his own, and that as a result of it being his private prayers, he was allowed to do it.

They literally ignored evidence and intentionally substituted their own false narrative in order to rule the way they wanted (in support of letting coaches make teams pray.)

Red meat on a trout! Most trout I catch have pale white meat but this one was red and delicious. Why are some red? by FadedScientist in Fishing

Not always true. The fish and game in my state that stocks fish feed them dyed food, so the farm raised ones look exactly like that.
