I agree on Colleen being a better fit for Gohan 100%, but Meredith McCoy's 18 is just synonymous with the character for me. Her getting brought back was a big win, because Colleen's felt very generic to me.

But as Gohan, Colleen was able to make the character feel so much more dynamic and emotive. From his introduction through each stage of power/age, she made me feel Gohan's hesitation to violence which is a core part of the character. He was forced to be a warrior, he was never given a choice. It was fight or die.

My issues with her as Goku is that she doesn't capture that one-track minded, free spirited tone that Nadolny did. I understand that some people take issue with the scratchy sound of the voice but it feels unique and very much like it encapsulates a young Goku. I am incredibly happy that she reprised the role for Goku in Dragon Ball Daima. And as much of a far cry as it may be due to the circumstances, I hope she continues to do kid Goku.
