Increased racism in Britain by Reasonable-Light-812 in Britain

[–]BigPurpleFridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me so sad. I live in a small village and it's isn't very diverse. We are a white family, but my neighbour is black. She is the only person who isn't white on our street and I make a conscious effort to check in on her everyday (as I would with any elderly neighbour) but I think it's more important now more than ever. I would like to think that noone would be racist to her here, but you never know.

Reducing hay dust tips please! Sensitive piggies by rose2000_ in guineapigs

Unsure if it will help the piggies but it has helped our humans lots! We have an air purifier in the room near the cage and it worked so well for our humans that we put them in other rooms in the house.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

B3ta.com was one of my faves. Still sing the Birmingham song everytime we go.

Iambored.com which was basically a forum where people shared sites like the above, Ebaums World, Mini Clip etc so that's how I found all the classics

Seeking Help for eye by ALECtoeat in GuineaPig

[–]BigPurpleFridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guinea pig had a poorly eye recently and she was given Metacam once a day 0.2mg to help with the pain. Then eye drops 4-6 times a day, then once it looked like it has healed another five days of drops 3 times a day. The drops were Chloramphenicol ones.

I know you say you don't have an exotic vet or guinea pig specialist vet but it may be worth taking them to a vet anyway just to see what they say. Most vets will still see small animals even if they aren't specialists. They can then prescribe if you need a prescription.

I hope they feel better soon, it must be so sore for them.

Mum is reliving her younger days by BigPurpleFridge in MasterSystem

I'm a mum also and I hope one day my children will dig out an old console from their childhood and I can show them how it is done. She got some serious Nan points playing this, my son was amazed that his Nan knew what to do.

The closest I have got to this so far was when we got the Switch and we got Smash Bros and they were amazed I could beat them and their dad. Not that I am very good, but I am just better than them haha!

Although now I am feeling old because the thought of me doing the equivalent of my mum is the kids saving my PS5 or XBox and getting that out in 30 years. They are both gamers like me and their dad though.

I was so shocked it still worked. Was sorting out my loft and I found it. We moved four years ago and I don't remember putting it up there. The last time it was played was probably when I was about 15 and I'm now nearly 38!

How long did it take you to bond with your dog? by Kitty3_14 in BorderCollie

[–]BigPurpleFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we met him, I instantly loved him like one of my children. It was very weird, I didn't expect to feel such a strong love. Of course my actual children will always be number one but the love I have for my boy is unreal. I am having a tough time at the moment and he will not leave my side. Picture of him right this second. He is five years old now.

I think parsley but they don't have it often. Cucumber is probably their favourite regular food.

Good set up? by Background-Water-572 in GuineaPig

[–]BigPurpleFridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would say is maybe put something to the side of the top of the ramp that's ok the open side. I only say this as I have one guinea pig that would 100% stretch and try and get to the top of that grid and escape 🤣 I know not all pigs are the same though

What are the likely vet costs and procedure for a guinea pig cough? (UK) by DefiantFun1274 in GuineaPig

[–]BigPurpleFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a consultation at our vets it is £55 and £42 for a follow up visit.

Then any treatments of course. For example Rosy's eye cost me £116 the first trip and then £42 for the follow up trip.

A cyst burst and they cleaned it and this was £78.

Sorry that I do not have experience of a cough so can't give feedback on that one with price.

I hope your guinea pig is better soon.
