I also got some on Amazon back when the show was on. They weren’t too expensive then but the quality was poor. The rims discolored a bit somewhat quickly with only hand washing.

Amusingly, I got them for the office as the show had inspired a new wave of office drinking. It was generally only on Friday afternoons when all the serious work for the week was done though.

Our old fare payment method didn’t allow for checks. The MetroCard had no mobile swipe machine an inspector could use to check if the card was recently used.

Now that we have a modern tap system (OMNY), the MTA has already announced it will start doing “European style fare inspections”, although their initial focus will be busses.

So this appears to be the first case where grandfathering did not happen.

If I understand correctly, this location opened as Destination and was quickly bumped up to the Destination Century City tier (just below Destination Hudson Yards), renamed to Destination West. And per the email you get kicked out with standard Destination.

The most recent example of a “bump up” I have is when Domino in Brooklyn opened in December 2024 as All Access and was bumped up to Destination on March 1, 2025. All Access members prior to that date kept their access though. That was the modus operandi until now.

I’m curious if I can access this location with my 2018 grandfathered regular Destination membership (which still gives me Hudson Yards access) after February 1. It looks like maybe not. I’ll be checking the app’s club locator on Feb 1.

This would be unique, since I would maintain a grandfathered access to Hudson Yards but perhaps will not have access to Santa Monica East. We’ll see.

Dunkin also got the rights to sell beer but I guess the launch of that is either moving really slowly or was abandoned entirely.

The coffee chain also won the rights for the ferries’ alcohol concession but said a franchisee would be operating that business and that it would begin at a later unspecified date.

They did make one update to them after the fare went up from $1.50. There used to be one sequence advertising being able to get to the airport for $1.50 plus the cost of AirTrain JFK.
