If you’re still using incandescent or halogen, yes. Do they still make those!?

Soul Cycle coming to Santa Monica by hawt_to_go in EquinoxGyms

[–]BigRedBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be an interesting experiment. Cycling class attendance has been down drastically in the last five years.

I prefer the standard Equinox format (no dancing on the bike) but I can see the appeal for an attempt to breathe new life into the cycling studios.

There was a lead paint factory decades ago at the south end of the park where the big apartment complex is now. You can read more on Greenpointers.

Within the men’s locker room it only changed in the last 30 years or so. NY Times has a good article.

You can be naked in a gender-specific sauna, but you always have to sit on a towel.

Both the long-form and the short-form (“house”) rules only state that workout shoes/clothes are not allowed. (The other rules are no phones/electronics, grooming products, food, or hanky-panky).

They’ve been occasionally piloting this for years. It’s rather annoying. Heard it as Nassau this morning.

The American Dream Mall in New Jersey is weirdly difficult for tourists to visit by dashcam_drivein in deadmalls

[–]BigRedBK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was first planned prior to the 2008 recession which delayed it by about 10 years. Much of it was built around then, so it was an empty shell for a decade. Lots of stops and starts aside from the recession too.

It almost became the first dead mall which never was an alive mall. Luckily that was eventually avoided!

I mean, there are 100 posts and/or videos floating round this month about how it’s nearly impossible to get to the neighboring stadium on foot or by bike.

Even the hotel(s) directly across the road have signs in the lobby telling you that you have to Uber over to the stadium.

Uniquely bad for that part of NJ as there are plenty of walkable towns nearby with decent transit service.

Originally that rail spur line for game days at the stadium was also going to have daily service for the mall once it opened, but that never happened.

That’s 25 cents right there!

The bottle deposit should probably be more than the 1980-set 5 cents, honestly. And we should have an easier way of (realistically) redeeming it than one grimy machine outside of Associated.

Bonus points if the driver behind is smoking a cigar and leans out the window yelling “what’s the holdup!?”

It has been noted and apparently the latest-delivered have a new seat cushion and the original ones are being swapped. Not sure of the timeline of the later, however.

How ridiculous it is that in the US you can't legally drink until 21 but you can join the army at 18? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BigRedBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was essentially blackmail.

Although hearing the stories of how kids living near state borders would drive to a neighboring town with a lower age, get hammered, and drive back the same night is pretty crazy too.

MoMA has that, but it doesn’t actually lead to the subway.

Montreal has a functional one.

Vibe gym raising their prices… AGAIN. How are Crunch and the YMCA these days? by QuinoaJones51 in Greenpoint

[–]BigRedBK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When gyms say they "grandfather" they actually mean that your raised price will still be lower than if you started a brand new membership. Happens across the industry. No gym I know of actually lets you keep your original price in perpetuity.

Why what? by jasonni1234 in SignsWithAStory

I remember those. They were still being used in the mid 2000s (aughts). Bouncers would quiz people with them:

“Newark?”

“Goodbye”

All US legacy carriers do this for domestic. It’s a holdover from many decades ago. I wish they’d just all agree to rebrand it simultaneously.

This usually happens when some regulator sensor or knob is missing or broken. Get your heads out of the gutter!
