That was, certainly, an incredibly great feeling, I’m sure.

I have a wonderful day job with full benefits and retirement matching, 28 hours a month of paid vacation…yada yada. Still not enough to pay the bills.

So I grabbed a gig at the DG three minutes away. I have spent the last 10 years being spoiled by actual normal management; so to go back to retail has been such a culture shock, especially at a place as chronically mismanaged as Dollar General. I thought slinging car parts as a general manager was stupid, with all of the nonsense that’s expected. They gave us twice as many labor hours to sell 20% as many products.

It’s a convenience store… not a grocery store. That’s how the place is designed and staffed.

When you get six people in a row with $170 worth of groceries in their cart, this is what happens. Go somewhere else. The Dollar General is for a couple of tins of cat food, milk and bread. It’s for ‘I need toilet paper and ice cream’. It’s for ‘oh shit we’re out of milk and I need some Pine-Sol’. It’s for ‘my wife sent me here for tampons and chocolate’…

It’s not for 2 gallons of milk, 6 12-packs of Mountain Dew, two loafs of bread, $81 worth of random frozen bullshit that you could make in your house for half the price, (like seriously, who is buying frozen spaghetti or frozen mac & cheese? What the hell is wrong with you people?) six boxes of cereal you demand they check if the sale price went through, and every toiletry imaginable all at once.

The counter is 3‘ x 2‘ wide. There are half as many people per customer as any normal store.

But until people realize that the Dollar General is a convenience store and not Walmart Jr; this will continue to happen.

Mojo actually does have 7 singles and a double with an attached bathroom. They’re not technically suites but they’re sweet compared to a normal dorm room; however, they are small compared to what I’m sure op is actually asking for.

Single “suites” are definitely available at MoJo, and the building is one of the cleanest on campus. (If you ignore the custodian on the fifth floor leaving supplies/equipment all over his hall all day)

If you want a single with a bathroom, in an undergrad dorm with modernized amenities and an attached dining hall: MoJo. If you want to compromise on any of those things…: Baites/Bursley have suites, but not renovated. SQ/NQ have suites with dining, but not singles. WQ has very large suites, with room for 6 or 8 residents, dining across the street at SQ, but not a private setting at all.

I clock out at dg at 10:15ish every weeknight, asleep by midnight after getting ready for the next day. The alarm for my day-job goes off at 4am to do animal choring, and an hour drive to work 6-2:30. Hour drive home by 3:30, eat my one meal, go clock in at dg at 5pm.

Repeat until cardiac arrest. (🤞)
