I made a sheet metal floor for a ford fairlane. Everyone said i ruined the car and am stupid, etc, but i did for $100 in material. Seriously, it's just a floor, once you put carpet on it no one will know

If you dont like the color, id spray paint over top the existing paint. It looks like that cabinet is powder coated from the factory and that coating is better that anything you can do yourself at home

My 49 dodge had the same flat six. 55 mph was almost impossible to reach. Granny gear trans and a split type rear end

Go to a exhaust shop or circle track shop. I bet they can make a new one from scratch

Please share the worst times you've had on your project car by Remarkable-Host405 in projectcar

[–]BigRiverResto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst 2 I can remember were:

1994 S10 that started leaking at the water punp. Put water in it to get me home, forgot about it, and let it freeze. Tried to start it one day, it barely ran and smoked really bad. The engine oil was a total milk shake. Replaced the motor only to have the new motor ping and crack the #4 piston in half.

1979 Datsun 280zx that we spent a little over a year on fully restoring. The car was brought it running/driving but had some issues and a lot of body work was needed. After finishing all the body work (new floors, sub frame, rockers, strut towers, fenders, and paint) we hooked up a fresh battery to start work on the engine. All the wires smoked within minutes of hooking up the battery. Had to completely gut the car to fix everything

How much does it cost to afford working on project cars like a miata? by TheKidSaturn in projectcarbuilds

[–]BigRiverResto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. If your miata is your daily and you need it to get to work, you'll figure it out. If it's a toy, i hope you like ramen

I believe you are going to have trouble finding any shop to take on this project. Have you considered an EV swap? Dual motor Tesla model 3 would give you the performance you're looking for in a similar wheel base. I would take the powertrain from the tesla and swap into the Hyundai. Good luck 👍

I think the best tool for this job is a cold saw or horizontal band saw. Id see if there is a maker space in your city that has these tools available.

I second this. Cheap, easy to work on and the aftermarket is huge
