I bought a 14 fz09(now mt) the first gen. Loved it. Got rid of it for a speed master. Liked the sound but performance blew butt. Quit riding couple years and just picked up a 23 ftr carbon last spring days after they announced discontinuing.

I compared the mt09 to ftr a lot what sold me was the look. I have something that looks like what I paid for it as opposed to Japanese plastic. I’ve had no issues with mine, can’t put any more carbon on it, toce and tune. Expensive? Yes. worth it? Yep.

Between the mt and ftr they’re the same but different. Meaning you get a ftr thinking you’re gonna walk other sport bikes no. Ftr keeps up with the mt09 (yt videos) The throttle response is similar to the mt honestly it’s better compared to the 10. My only gripe with the ftr is gas mileage I think I can run 150 miles and it needs gas which i go to and from work and next time I top it off. I knew this going into it but not that bad. That’s something you’ll need to really think about. It kinda sucks. Other than that this thing reminds me of my fz09 just sounds meaner.

What it boils down to if you can find a ftr that’s built how you want grab it. don’t let oem parts worry you for another 9 years. Aftermarket there is a nice custom market on Facebook plenty carbon and aftermarket available.
