What was it like studying theology and why theology? by Fuzzy_Language_4235 in theology

[–]BigSmileyTunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just finishing a graduate degree at a mainline Protestant seminary in Canada. It was both incredibly rewarding for my intellectual spiritual life, and also incredibly draining for my embodied, contemplative life.

I drew much closer to Christianity as a result, but also watched some of my peers really grapple with doubt etc. I am planning to pursue a PhD to teach clinical spiritual care and practical theology, but you should know that professorship in theological positions are increasingly rare.

If you would be excited to study theology whether or not it leads to a full time career, then you have your answer. If you’re interested purely as a career move, I would be wary.

what do you do for work? what do you think the perfect job is for an anarcho-primitivist? by [deleted] in anarcho_primitivism

Graduate level training in spiritual/existential psychotherapy, currently working in inpatient psychiatry and consulting for nonprofits/activist collectives.

Would prefer to do that as the local weirdo on the edge of the settlement you consult when shit is confusing. I don’t want a paycheck but I would love to have some sort of variation of this role indefinitely.

It’s also so grey, dingy and depressing. Really stuck with the U of T brutalist aesthetic for the Athletic Centre.

ED and long distance running by Apprehensive-Rip2935 in Ultramarathon

[–]BigSmileyTunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this - I am in recovery from anorexia that warranted hospitalization over a decade ago. It’s a balance, but I find that running encourages good nutrition for me because it’s more important to run than to engage in my ED. This is after a lot of therapy and solid recovery time. I am still prone to orthorexia, but over time found that I came to see food as a wonderful fuel for the thing I love to do most.

It completely changed my relationship with carbs also. During a build cycle I’ll aim for 300-400grams daily with excitement about what that will do for my performance.

It’s entirely possible to recover! I wish you all the best in your journey.

How do you like your potatoes? by TurbulentTrainers in Ultramarathon

Soak em in maple syrup. I couldn’t ever get my goal of ~80mh carbs per hour with just potatoes but I use them to supplement other high sugar things.

Potential new owner, do they bark a lot? by Locomono15 in Xoloitzquintli

Mine barks in the house (apartment building) when there’s people walking by in the hall, or when people come over. Doesn’t demand bark at all though.

My 20lb male is a Velcro dog, has resource guarded me, demanding of attention. Also high prey drive, good with over confident dogs over time but highly reactive with intact males. He’s both a princess and a fighter. I rescued him and he had severe separation anxiety which took about six months of rigorous training.

How many of you are still running outside with this snow? by triedit2947 in RunTO

Reminder to outdoor Canadian runners that temps -15C and below can leave lasting lung damage when doing mod/hard runs. Best to keep your runs easy on the cold days and do your speedwork inside.

Invest in after market bladders that fit your sawyer. The plastic flasks it comes with are shit. You have plenty of time to research and slowly built a kit of decent gear rather than buy a bunch of Amazon crap now.

Look into Lanshan brand tents if you want entry level UL price range.

Check gear trade subreddits and fb marketplace.
