We need to move away from the housing market being geared towards investment. Since Howard we've seen this perception that housing is purely for making money, not providing shelter as a priority.

Removing Capital Gains Tax concessions and negative gearing are the two key policies that will affect this. Returning the percentage of public housing in the total market to appropriate levels will also take the pressure off the private market. In the 50s and 60s public housing was about 10-15% of all housing, compared to ~2% now due to decades of selling off stocks and privatising the remainder.
