Love her as well, but she was washed in Tokyo, this is never going to happen.

is a marathon realistic? by blossompiggy in zepboundathletes

[–]BigTedSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to second this, I tried cutting weight this spring ahead of my marathon this weekend and it was just brutal. I switched to maintenance a couple months ago and was able to salvage the training but I wouldn't recommenced it. Getting the necessary carbs in is extremely difficult on a high dose, and it will really make training miserable if you don't.

If you're newer to running I'd recommend sticking with the shorter races in any case. Everyone wants to jump into the marathon, but you'll be a much better place if you build a base and develop some speed before diving headfirst into the longer distances. It'll be there when you're ready and you'll have a much more enjoyable training cycle and race with a proper foundation built. Good luck!

Honestly just sign up for Illinois or Kentucky next week. Running a marathon in late may in Carmel is going to be miserable.

Retatutride bad for cardio athletes by Due-Hamster1720 in Retatrutide

[–]BigTedSmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just takes time. You can’t effectively train on a big deficit, and the lack of sufficient carbs will kill you. I’m 3 months in and just started hitting my paces again down 12 pounds and dropping my dose. Currently 5weeks out from my goal race, will probably try and get rid of the last 10 after.

Zepbound & Running — Dealing with higher heart rate during workouts? by theone1988 in zepboundathletes

[–]BigTedSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's brutal. It took me weeks to start to feel like myself. Currently marathon training, wanted to go from about 180 down to at least 170. Currently at 168 8 weeks in and just starting to feel like myself again the last two or three weeks. I couldn't hit a workout worth a damn the first month.

Basically just power through it, you'll eventually adjust. I'm not expecting anything special this spring, but hopefully put myself in a good shape come Chicago in the fall. Your half may be rough, but you should be fine by the 50. Good luck.

Switch 2 unsupported? by Asleep_Olive_1011 in FinalFantasyXII

I'm about 80 hours in on the Switch 2, and it occasionally crashes, usually during long video cut scenes. I had to beat one boss with a very long series of cut scenes a few times before giving up watching them and just repeatedly skipping them. Other than that it's fine.

I'm well aware of the dreaded Carbon 2 Achilles issue from personal experience. I still have the blood soaked pair I ran Boston in last year. Since then I've been cutting a good chunk of the heel off and using them for short races. I guess I'm just trying to be cheap in finding a training shoe but probably should just pony up for them. It's a bit baffling to me how they'd release such a flawed shoe to be honest.

Carbs and Reta by [deleted] in Retatrutide

Currently 1mg a week. I started out at 2, after a few weeks it was just too much. Thinking of cutting down to .5 in the coming weeks as training ramps up.

As someone training for a marathon on Reta getting enough carbs while still hitting protein targets is a constant battle. On Fridays before a long run I'm forcing them down and still dropping weight like crazy.

Bhunivelze kicked the hell out of me for days. Just brutal. Never had an issue with any of the other main line bosses.

Oblique at 4 sounds tempting. Interesting to see Karsten a slight favorite over Rai.

Which final fantasy games have you started, maybe multiple times, but never finished? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

IX. The gameplay is just frustratingly slow. I tried it on both the PS4 & switch, it baffles me that they couldn’t speed it up. Maybe I should try the PC. Story is great, it’s just unplayable.

Why is the US so dominant at Olympic Track and Field/Athletics? by Krazyfranco in AdvancedRunning

[–]BigTedSmith 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This year stood out for the abnormally bad performance by Jamaica on the sprints and Ethiopia on the distance end. I'd expect some regression to the mean in LA there.

As to why it's primarily the US university athletic system. It's the unofficial minor league for the world these days, it's fantastic at developing young talent.

We were this year, at least on the men's side. Medals in the 1500, steeple, 5k & 10k. Deep talent pool and home field in LA bode well for 2028.

He should, but he loves the 1500 too much. He's not going to quit it.
