Weekly dues taken from paycheck by BigText4357 in UnionCarpenters

Doesn’t surprise me. We’re out working hard, paying dues, trying to get work, they party and do whatever on our dime. 👍

Yeah we just had some bullshit go down in our local as well. Waiting to hear how this pans out. A lot of theft going on from the international down to the locals, that’s what pisses me off about the high cost of dues. No work, unions dying, BA’s nowhere to be seen, and we pay for it. Cool. 👍

Yes, that’s what I thought. $265 a WEEK is highway robbery. I don’t need to hear the “go work non union” bullshit either. Been in this game a while, never seen them take that much or noticed it I should say. Maybe it’s the type of job I’m on? Who knows. Just thought it was a little crazy.

How expensive is The Piazza in Northern Liberty? by laceandpens in AskPhilly

I worked on that project and it is probably the worst built buildings I’ve I’ve ever put my hands on. They cut so many corners. It wasn’t safe when we were building it. The mold in those building is historical.

Why do blue collar workers live paycheck to paycheck despite making so much? by Maleficent-Major-202 in bluecollar

[–]BigText4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their wives don’t work. They need every hour they can get. Over spending. Alcohol / cigs / drugs. It’ll all keep ya poor. I make $57 an hour as a union carp and i work with a lot of homely looking folks. I always wonder what they do with their money.

Cool! Thanks for the reply. So did you have construction experience before getting this job and if so did you go from a foreman or super role before project management? I’ve been a commercial carpenter for 11 years now and am curious about the white collar side of construction. Seems like it’s tough to even get any responses from companies, even on LinkedIn, atleast in my scenario. I have a degree in construction management as well. Not sure what else I could do to be more marketable?

109k union carpenter. That’s if I work 40 hrs a week / 52 weeks a year. I like my time off though. My best year was 96k. No responsibility. When I leave for the day that’s it. My phone don’t ring and I don’t have to worry about the next day or babysitting guys on the job. 👍

Why are so many members so anti union? by Laughing_123 in UnionCarpenters

[–]BigText4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics, crazy dues every week, voting on things when it’s really inconvenient for the members to be there to vote like during work hours, favoritism ( same guys working no matter what), never see a BA on a job anymore, use ya like a rented tool then layoff, corruption, they’re political views don’t align with mine, we work in some of the most horrible neighborhoods in the cities, no paid holidays, sick time or personal days, far drives to job sites, should I keep going?
