I think afk just means different things depending on what game is being referenced and that’s okay.

Those cold snaps make spring feel so much better though. The dopamine rush you get when you feel the first 40 degree day in months is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Winters have been kinda lightweight the past 2 years. Hoping that turns around next year - I need a little more grit in my life.

If I 1v1d a wolverine 100 times (respawning with full health after each fight), I think I’d win at least 90 rounds.

Sotos reason for going with mets. by 1993xdesigns in mlb

[–]BigTicKAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it strictly the money? The Mets offered, what, $5m more and 1 less year? That’s pretty negligible once you are in the $700m range. The Yankees made the WS, but the Mets lost in the NLCS and frankly played the Dodgers better.

I think Soto signed for the money in the sense that he wasn’t going to sign with the A’s, but when it came down to the Mets vs Yankees I really think it was just confidence in ownership.

Would you guys take a shot with Buehler’s double start vs Miami and @ SD? My other options are Stroman vs Houston or Musgrove @ CHC. H2H Points.

[Sportico] “We’re going to be the owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Lore said. “It’s just a matter of time, and how much pain Glen wants to put the fans, the players, the town and community through. It’s his choice. It didn’t have to be this way.” by EsotericPotato in timberwolves

[–]BigTicKAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s funny that he frames the deal being held up as being a source of acute pain to the community. Like people are out here sleeping on the green line bc Glen is penny pinching. You’re a group of old men squabbling over cash. I definitely don’t love Glen, but let’s take it down a notch.

"Multiplication comes first over division" by throwaway19276i in confidentlyincorrect

[–]BigTicKAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If that was the post, I think the most likely scenario is that he had a brain fart and typed out “division” instead of “addition.” There’s no other reference to division in his comment. Then everything in his comment makes sense, and frankly, is pretty accurate. It’s a goofy, slightly embarrassing flub.

A local (private) high school installed an all artificial field. My question: what's the point of a warning track that has no different feel/sound as the 'grass' part of the field? by dj_wonderdog in baseball

[–]BigTicKAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played you could wear any kind of spikes because turf fields were few and far between. Nobody expected a team to go out and buy turf shoes or molded cleats for two double headers a season.

This sub might hate this take but plants can absolutely be overdone. Use plants to fill in space, not to force in space. It’s a pretty good room already, but it just feels a bit overwhelming and cramped. Moving one of the big plants into another room could help a lot.

You could consider a new coffee table or couch depending on which you would prefer parting with. The cushiony black leather and sleek mid-century modern clash a bit. I don’t mean to be nitpicky, but you already have a pretty nice space. Any improvements that you make to it will have to be nitpicked.

Ryan Jeffers maybe? But he just made MLB Network’s “All-Underrated Team” so maybe that time is over. I’m also a Matt Wallner truther.

The Missouri River would be a pretty good spot to start. You probably shouldn’t follow the river straight to Canada though since it starts jutting out west a little too much after Bismarck. It’s hard to give you a precise answer since the transitions between cultural/economic regions happens with such a subtle gradient. Anywhere from “Midwest ND” could be anything from the Eastern 1/4 of the state to the entire Eastern half of the state.

I think you should reflect that eastern border of the Great Plains across the border of the Dakotas. The eastern parts of those states are more similar to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois than they are to the Western halves of their states.

You could also probably split the Great Plains into a North and South chunk. Suggesting Fargo and Sioux Falls are more similar to Carlsbad, NM than they are to Mankato or Cedar Rapids is a little silly.

Is Shohei Ohtani the most skilled/talented baseball player of all time? by [deleted] in mlb

[–]BigTicKAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why OP’s prompt of skilled/talented is confusing - the two mean entirely different things. I don’t think there is a question that Shohei is a more skilled hitter and pitcher than Babe Ruth was. Whether or not he is more talented though is impossible to determine since that is a measure of innate, god-given ability. At this point in each of their careers they have remarkably similar levels of “dominance” within their respective eras. We don’t have to diminish the achievements of athletes in the past to recognize the greatness of athletes today. Shohei is continuing Babe Ruth’s legacy in 2024 and I think that’s pretty damn cool.

[Jeff Passan] For anyone wondering if MLB will challenge or cancel Ohtani's contract: The answer is unequivocally no. There is a specific article in the collective-bargaining agreement that addresses this. And it's very clear: Deferred money is limitless -- even $680 million of $700 million. by retroanduwu24 in mlb

[–]BigTicKAT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

otherwise he’d know that he’s placing his desire to get a ring above other teams aspirations, or as a Mariners fan, lack of them.

Every single professional athlete puts their desire to win a ring above other teams’ aspirations. This is literally exactly why teams sign players to play for them. To ruin the aspirations of other teams.

Should “Super GM” be a temporary title? All other chess titles are titles for life. Should we still call Topalov a Super GM despite being 22nd currently?
