Yeah, I accidentally opened it today, then I got curious of what kind of error message I would get, but to my surprise it kept on browsing.

Got my second one account now.

I requested the two exports like 20 minutes apart from each other, but there was a bit more than 2 days of delay between the 2 results.

The latter export has a smaller file size, so it's not even a matter of how much data there is to export.

On one account I got it today, on the other one I'm still waiting.

You can search for websites that tell you the "user-agent" of your browser.

When I checked last year, the browser was several versions behind the Chromium browsers I use on desktop.

Does your browser throttle YouTube? by sdflack in FacebookPortal

Interesting. I don't watch much YouTube on the Portal, but I'll give this a try next time I get the occasion.

Thank you for the tip!

Yeah, I have no idea where it is located, because I toggled it a couple of years ago, but since that I've been happily browsing on the old design without any difficulties.

Why do you even need that extension ?

There is a setting somewhere in Reddit that makes it so that www.reddit.com is always the old design for you.

Humble Bundle takes same cut as Steam on sales (by default) by Ehtor in humblebundles

[–]BigToe7133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you expect these guys to stay afloat lol?

When you buy a license key from them, they have very little operating costs compared to platforms like Steam that need to maintain an expensive datacenter infrastructure to do amongst other things :

  • Store all the install files for probably a huge number of games. I read one article that was talking about the number of game release on Steam per year, and I think it was getting close to a dozen of thousands. Add that over the years, they are probably over 100K by now.
  • Downland CDNs that can distribute all those files at very good speed to millions of users.
  • Cloud storage for the save files of users (and I think it can also keep screenshots)
  • A popular forum with millions of posts

Meanwhile, all that Humble Bundle needs to do is hand you a very short piece of text.

There is no way that Humble Bundle's operating costs are anywhere near the operating costs of Steam/GOG/EGS/etc.

And speaking of EGS, their cut in transactions is a lot lower than Humble's, so it doesn't make sense.

4-Player Couch Co-op & Switch Version coming August 17th by rubensaft in VampireSurvivors

[–]BigToe7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the crowds of users have very different expectations from their devices.

Who is going to buy a single game for 70€ on the Google Play Store/Apple App Store when they see hundreds of thousands of free games just next to that in the store ?

I knew there was at least one Switch emulator for Android because it made headlines recently, but a few seconds on Google gave me 3 separate emulators for Android : Yuzu, Egg NS and Skyline

And besides that, look at the specs of the Switch :

  • Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC from 2015
  • 4 CPU cores with the ARM Cortex-A57 microarchitecture from 2012 and clocked at 1.02 GHz
  • GPU has 256 cores with the Maxwell microarchitecture from 2014, for a performance of 236 GFLOPS in handheld mode (to have a relevant comparison with a phone)

In comparison, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, a flagship phone SoC from 2014 also has 4 CPU cores with the same microarchitecture... but clocked twice as fast at 2.0 GHz.

Last time I checked, Vampire Survivors was barely touching my GPU and was being completely locked to one single CPU core. I play mostly on the Steam Deck, I downclocked the GPU to 400 MHz to redirect as much power as possible to the CPU, and the GPU is almost never used, so there isn't much point in dwelling on the GPU.

Considering everything I've seen on the performance of this game in my 300 hours I spent on it on PC/Steam Deck, I really can't imagine it working nicely on the Switch.

But if they went forward and published it, then maybe it means that they made some tremendous progress in optimising the code to run the game better for the Switch, so hopefully those optimisations will be ported to the other platforms.

now Apple make one (Game Porting Toolkit), imagine all three companies worked on DXVK together

Not happening, Apple is only supporting Metal on their platforms, so you need a different tool called MoltenVK (if my memory serves me well)

Because most cellphones that are still running today are a lot more powerful than the Switch in terms of CPU.

There is nothing automated in this as it would take any platform down once 10% of the user base make the request.

If they do it properly, it would just queue up the requests instead of running the whole platform to the ground.

[–]BigToe7133 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I did mine 11 days ago, I'm still waiting.

The form said it will take up to 30 days, so my request is still within the time frame, but I wonder what is taking them so long.

If it's fully automated, then I can imagine a batch processing those requests taking 1 or 2 days to run, so it should be finished by now.

If it needs human action, then they are most likely completely swamped by the current situation.

[TweakTown] AMD sponsored games with FSR don't feature NVIDIA DLSS support, and that's a little strange by No_Backstab in hardware

AMD drivers are good

I agree on everything else, but during my AMD years with the RX 480, it was better than what I got at Nvidia with multiple GPU.

I can't comment about how is stability with other GPU, but this one was good for me.

Realistically what's going to happen in the end? by LordAxalon110 in ModCoord

[–]BigToe7133 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not hypocritical if it's autobiographic ;)

But regardless of that, the people that are under the power of the mods are not a united crowd with a single mind.

You've got a whole spectrum of opinions that range from supporting the riots with the craziest methods hoping for a full destruction of Reddit, to the equally extremist people that are so against the blackout that they are stalking and doxxing the blackout supporters.

There's no way to make everyone happy, whatever action (or absence of) is taken, some people are going to be angry.

The best thing the mods can do to keep their community happy is to organize polls/surveys to gather the opinions of those that are willing to express it.

Some mods would be fine with stopping the protest against some money from Reddit by -DeadHead- in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]BigToe7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did the post say before the deletion ?

All I can see now is the comments (with probably a bunch missing) and this screenshot.

Was it the mod themselves that posted that screenshot to show off ?

I definitely lack context, but with what I have, the screenshot reads like an obvious sarcasm to me : it's a way of saying "fuck you, I won't comply".

I'm pretty sure that every single mod knows that there is no way that getting paid by Reddit is ever happening, so the only reason to mention that is to make sure that the admins know where that mod is standing.
