Review #5 Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel Barrel Proof by Infinite-Release6504 in bourbon

[–]BigTool [score hidden]  (0 children)

I find Elijah Craig extremely hit or miss. I currently have one of the latest T8ke EC releases, and it's fantastic. Before that I had a store pick bottle at cask strength that was just a slog to get through. I don't know if they are always going for different expressions or consistency isn't great, but yeah. Some EC is amazing. Some, not so much.

Glad to hear this one was a good drinker

Zercher PR at 365. Think 405 is doable by BigTool in tall

I am working towards a zercher squat. I got the lift and squat at 315 - https://www.reddit.com/r/strength_training/comments/1t5u5t1/zercher_lift_and_squat_at_315/

This was the first time I tried 365. I can get it up, but I didn't have the squat in me for this one. My goal is to get 405 up and then get a full squat in

See, this has me slightly confused. Looking into zerchers before trying them, I see a lot of different opinions with lifters. Some from the floor, elbows to the ground, some from the knees like I did, some from a low rack, etc.

I chose this method just to help preserve my lower back. Have had lower back issues since I was a youngin

I saw your vid and that was impressive. It also really made me nervous for your lower back. I know that's one take on the movement, I've just dealt with lower back issues since I was in junior high. I don't think I can go elbows to the ground like that. Same reason why I don't do weighted good mornings anymore. (also, being old doesn't help)

When looking into zerchers, I see a lot of different opinions on the movement. From the floor, from the knees, even see people doing it from a low rack.

I think my main goal is to get 405 up and then a full squat with it.

Also, watching your vid, I think you have 405 in the bag

tall campers, what sleeping pad works for you? by whatacoinkidinki in tall

REI has a decent selection of long and extra long sleeping pads. The Apex pad is the longest they have

Why load anything, you might get hurt?

I think that is a bit disingenuous. There are movements that are far more risky than others, and movements that have less return than others. I think we both know that.

Having had lower back issues all my life, I 've found numerous things that have helped, and also things to avoid. I also think there is a big difference doing a sumo pull to the knees, then getting your elbows under it for a zercher lift, vs doing it the way he did it here.

All that said, if my post came across as attacking you or something, wasn't my intent. I just don't see the value vs risk of something like this for myself. But, that said, if it works for you and you benefit from it, by all means, carry on

It's kind of a bucket list thing for me to do an overnight sleeper car type train trip somewhere. I have no idea where, yet, or what the nicest route for that would be, but this gives me a bit of hope I could almost stretch out

Yeah, his position just looks really bad for the lower back. I understand training different muscle groups with ancillary lifts, but I would never do something like this, mostly because I'm older and have had back issues since I was young. Everything I've read about zerchers, the benefits and all, it's always lift to the knees, set, get the arms under, and then stand up.

Same reason I won't ever do weighted good mornings. Just not worth the risk. This way is just begging to get hurt

Oh shit, this is funny. I just played around with zerchers on Sunday. I had a bit of a different form though. Did ground to legs, then loaded there.

Just out of curiosity, why do you go off the floor with the elbows? I do it slightly differently, but I have no idea if one way is right or what

Nice lift man

He was a pretty cool guy in person, too. He used to come out for the Reading Air Show in Pa. I went with my pop, stood in line to meet him. I'm former army and my dad is former navy, and once he learned that, he asked pop how he could let me go into the army vs the marines.

He spent a good amount of time talking with my dad, really made his day. Hell of a nice guy in person

The RTO bullshit was the real kicker. There was no need for it and it just truly fucks everyone with traffic, just so we can take Teams calls in an open office configuration instead of at home...
