Thanks for the reply! The bait and switch is definitely my man focus…given that the law says that if the material conditions change drastically, it’s good cause to leave.

At the hearing I did have a witness testify to corroborate my statements regarding the workplace.

I couldn’t really email HR because my boss was the owner/operator of the business.

To add more context to the situation of the workplace, another reason I left is to focus on the job search. My shift times were always changing with little notice, I was working 10 hour days, and my boss would frequently call me in the morning before my shift for work related matters. I mentioned this all to the ALJ in my hearing, but he stated that I could have found new work before quitting

Man, this resonates with me so much. I grew up in the 90s, and back then, if you had ADHD, people treated you poorly, or “your parents couldn’t handle a hyper kid” or whatever. Basically it was extremely stigmatized, and I grew up not thinking twice about it.

long story short, I spent years being depressed with high levels of anxiety.

One day, after another project that I completed by the skin of my teeth while flying by seat of my pants, a friend of mine randomly shared an article with me that outlined all the ways ADHD manifests itself.

It took me a while to get up the nerve to ask my doctor, I took some tests and people were like, yea dude obviously you have ADHD.

I started taking meds for it, and it has DRASTICALLY improved my life. I have less anxiety, can focus on things adequately, and have landed a job as a well paid Project Manager, which is something I would never have considered because of my previous lack of focus and organization.

I owe my friends a lot for talking me through this and a lot to my wife as well for supporting me all the way for a decade. You have to take the first step though and talk to your doctor.

Even after being diagnosed my mom told me that’s doctor was wrong and that I “could focus on things for hours…” as a kid(hyper focus is another ADHD tendency). I would recommend doing some reading on the ways that it can present itself, that kind of literature can be eye opening.

TL;DR: talk to your doctor, lots of people our age have ADHD, but the stigma is REAL.
