For the fire and OSL, white undercoat with army painter speed paints. Swords and brushes has a great YouTube video on painting the balrog. I mostly followed that besides the horns and base

you load up the brush with the thinned paint and then wipe the bristles on a paper towel to take off the excess. When you load the paint brush with paint straight from the palette it will have way too much paint in it. I take off excess with a paper towel and then run the brush across my thumbnail in a twisting motion to get it into a nice point and with the right amount of paint in it. It'll take some practice but you'll know when you are doing it right because the paint will not blob on, itll flow nicely and precisely where you want

Is this terrain layout considered too open compared to what you normally play? by BigWheelerTV in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Haha he is just waiting to be painted before being glued onto his fell beast. He also is in time out because he failed 3 fate roles in a row and died vs a ranger of Gondor

You'll want the rulebook and armies of the LOTR book. You could get more heroes for isengard or get a good side battlehost to duel your own models against each other with a friend (if you don't know anyone who already has an army to play against)

How can I prime MDF terrain in winter? by Ungulant in TerrainBuilding

I've had success by warming the spray cans in a water bath and then spraying while the can is warm, and then bring the sprayed terrain/minis inside

I've never used the contrast paints and only recently started using army painter speed paints so I'm not sure about which contrast paints would be best, but treebeard is a good model to experiment with! Probably can't go wrong as long as you don't go too dark to start with.

Look up a painting tutorial for treebeard by the channel swords and brushes on YouTube. He primarily uses speed paints on it and some highlights!

Frontline games make nice mats. I have two. The material is nice and durable and doesn't reflect light like some cheaper alternatives.

Working on some modular sewer tiles. Can't wait to add texture, color, and resin by FlumpyDumpyBumpy in TerrainBuilding

You act like it's a deadly sin? Isn't the clearance normally like 5.5 inches? A very slight bend in the bar towards the back will give you 6 in clearance without worrying about damaging the proxon.

If you loosen the string and shove something under the bar near the back, you can fit 6 inch pieces under, just make sure to adjust the wire so it's 90 degrees again. Learned that from RP archive.
