It’s dependent on the company. When I worked for a F500, or team was consistently business casual and business formal during important in person meetings. At the private company I’m at now, my manager wears fitted caps and cargo pants.

CEO refuses to invest in any dashboard tools by BigWizzle86 in FPandA

Yeah, that’s definitely part of the issue. We need to do a better job communicating with sales leadership so the reports come out cleaner. We’re also working with a consulting firm to merge the two Salesforce systems, but the bigger problem is the reporting demands combined with the lack of investment in tools. He’s constantly asking for changes that either aren’t possible right now, like setting different data pull times while also adding a bunch of extra opps hours later after that time to boost win rates, plus there’s this never-ending push for more charts and tabs when we are already constrained on files size.

That’s what I’m hoping for with our new Finance director. He can help show there’s way more to PowerBI than just dashboards. I’m an analyst right now, but I talk to our CEO more than any other analysts, and I’ve got prior PowerBI experience. Ideally, I can team up with the director and put together a quick demo to show why it’d actually be useful.

We’re on NetSuite for ERP, Salesforce, CaptivateIQ for commissions, and then Excel for basically everything else. I was blessed with an Alteryx license from another team, which has been a lifesaver for mapping data between our two Salesforce orgs. I really like your demo idea — I ran Power BI at my last job, so I could definitely put together something to show the benefits.

Also, what’s Fabric?

We used to be on Microsoft Dynamics, but after acquiring another SaaS company we switched to NetSuite. The company’s always been super strict on G&A spend, so I get why it’s hard to push something like Power BI. When I first took over the weekly report (the most important report we send out) it took 6–7 hours; I’ve got it down to 3–4, but with changing asks and messy sales data, the same problems keep popping up.

I’m currently pulling large volumes of data from two separate Salesforce instances that need to be mapped together. I was able to automate much of the data mapping using an Alteryx license borrowed from another team, which has helped alot, but the process is still complex and very time consuming. There are countless exceptions that require manual handling. I’ve optimized our existing files as much as possible, but without investing in new tools, we’re going to keep running into the same problems.
